Selection 1: Birmingham City v Queens Park Rangers – QPR to Win at 2.87

The billing

Two sides who are marginally below where they aspire to be this season after a couple of disappointing results: this game is all about stopping a brief meander off course from becoming a full-blown slump.

Hosts’ form

Due to call-offs, Blues have had two weeks to stew over the error-ridden 4-0 loss at Blackburn last time out.

In some ways, Lee Bowyer’s side would have preferred to play Fulham and Peterborough straight away, which would have allowed them to channel the energy from the disappointment at Ewood Park, but instead it may have festered somewhat.

Visitors’ form

A nice November was followed by a dismal December, with QPR losing to the likes of Stoke and Bournemouth, struggling for creativity against the latter.

The Tactics Board

While QPR have rarely blown teams away this season and are not in great form, they should not be written off: the West Londoners possess strength at either end in Rob Dickie and Lyndon Dykes, as well as individual quality in Stefan Johansen, Chris Willock and Ilias Chair.

Selection 2: Blackburn Rovers v Huddersfield Town – Yes on BTTS at 1.83

The billing

Blackburn and Huddersfield were tipped for relegation by many in the summer, so few would have expected this January clash to be between two top six sides.

Hosts’ form

Rovers come into this game off the back of a sixth consecutive league win, beating Barnsley 2-1.

Ben Brereton Diaz continues to gain most of the plaudits after bagging another goal on Wednesday, but spare some love for left-footed technician John Buckley, who got two assists in that game to maintain a wonderful breakthrough season.

Visitors’ form

Town come into this game after recent back-to-back 3-2 wins, both of which after falling behind early on.

While the Terriers might have been helped by Jordan Gabriel’s red card against Blackpool, they were build momentum at 11 v 11 thanks to a couple of tactical tweaks from Carlos Corberan, who is truly defying his doubters this term.

The Tactics Board

Corberan will be keen to release Sorba Thomas in a more advanced role that allows him the freedom to cut inside and combine with Ward, Sinani and others, so the right-sided insurance of Oli Turton will be crucial to stopping Brereton Diaz paving way to goal for the hosts.

Selection 3: West Bromwich Albion v Cardiff City – Under 2.5 goals at 1.80

The billing

After failing to find the net at Barnsley and Derby, West Brom cannot afford to drop any more points against relegation candidates, though visitors Cardiff are hoping to put further daylight between themselves and the drop zone.

Hosts’ form

Whenever Valerien Ismael takes a chance on youth, it always seems to pay off.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman impressed in the 2-1 win at Coventry and has since inked a new deal, while speedy winger Tom Fellows enjoyed a wonderful cameo last time out, albeit in defeat.

Visitors’ form

Cardiff have shown excellent powers of recovery under Morison, taking five points from losing positions in his first two months in charge – including a second half comeback from three goals behind at Stoke to earn a point.

The Tactics Board

Each of Albion’s centre-backs – Cedric Kipre, Kyle Bartley and Matt Clarke – are competitive in the air, so Cardiff target man Kieffer Moore may find it difficult to isolate a weaker individual.

Equally, it would not be a huge surprise to see defensive leader Sean Morrison to come into the Bluebirds’ XI in order to combat Albion’s aerial bombardment.

In what could be a low-scoring encounter, the hosts will need the likes of Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson to produce quick, incisive attacks whenever they can turn the ball over.

Selection 4: Nottingham Forest v Barnsley – Forest to Win at 1.80

The billing

A feud that started as a mining controversy in the 1980s continues on the field at the City Ground, as Nottingham Forest and Barnsley work towards contrasting ambitions.

Hosts’ form

Forest proved ruthless against bottom half opposition last month, defeating Peterborough, Swansea and Hull, scoring a combined eight goals in those games.

If Steve Cooper’s side can keep Brennan Johnson and Djed Spence purring on the right, they will be hopeful of another victory.

Visitors’ form

Barnsley were unable to build on a positive point and clean sheet against West Brom, losing 2-1 last time out at another promotion contender in Blackburn – and the games do not get any easier for Poya Asbaghi’s troops, who are at least boosted by forward Carlton Morris’ recent return from injury.

The Tactics’ Board

This Barnsley squad has not been built to enjoy indulging in possession, so Asbaghi will have to be pragmatic in his attempts to keep the club in the Championship and a sturdy, disciplined display is required on Trentside.

If the visitors can stay compact, then it will be all about whether Manchester United loanee James Garner can open them up by bringing grace, class and creativity from deep.

Selection 5: Reading v Derby County – Reading to Win at 2.05

The billing

Two sides looking to beat the drop despite a points deduction: for Reading, that looks more than achievable, but Derby – 14 points off safety – have their work cut out.

Hosts’ form

It may be hard to gauge how big a factor form is for Reading, who have not played for three weeks due to postponements.

The Royals, though, have won just two of their previous ten league matches, leaving them two points off the drop zone.

Visitors’ form

A sturdy, spirited defensive display saw Derby to a 1-0 victory West Brom recently, giving them a result that might not do too much for their seemingly doomed survival hopes, but keeps in place the sense of togetherness and hope in adversity that Wayne Rooney has cultivated.

The Tactics’ Board

It may be difficult to tell what Reading’s XI will look like given injuries and COVID cases since their previous match, but any side will have to keep an eye out for right-sided speedster Festy Ebosele, athlete Jason Knight and teenage forward talent Luke Plange.

What is a Championship Acca?

A Championship Acca is a type of betting that involves combining several selections across different matches with one single stake. An acca or accumulator usually has at least four selections but it can include many many more. A Championship acca is one such bet that only involves matches from the Championship, the second tier of English football. The benefits of a Championship acca are that the odds can be massive with a very small stake as the odds for all selections are multiplied together. Every pick needs to win or your Championship acca will lose.
