With the Euro 2024 qualifiers now underway, we have England vs Ukraine bet builder tips ready for Sunday’s crucial match. Tips that will focus on whether the Three Lions can build on their impressive win in Italy.
This is also about whether Ukraine can open their qualification account. Their last trip to the United Kingdom was back in September and after losing 3-0 to Scotland, Andriy Shevchenko’s men will look for better fortunes this time around.
In this article:
European Championships Qualifying, Sunday, March 26th, 17:00 (UK)
When the draw for the Euro 2024 qualification process was made, there was always a sense that England’s toughest encounter was going to come first. The trip to Italy has not been easy for the Three Lions and before Thursday night, they had not roared there since 1961.
If that is the toughest task for Gareth Southgate’s men, their route to Germany already looks considerably easier. A 2-1 win in Naples has given England the ideal start to their qualification bid and now they will look to build on it on Sunday.
Because next up is a visit from Ukraine and after the heartbreak of missing out on last year’s World Cup, Andriy Shevchenko’s men will look to be on the 24-team guestlist for next summer’s football party.
However, this feat is going to be easier said than done. The draw may have been kind to them by adding Malta and North Macedonia to their list of opponents. That kindness was soon taken away when England and Italy were added to the mix.
With only two teams automatically guaranteed entry, Ukraine will have to hope that the play-off route opens up. For this to happen, two of the four previous League B nations that earned promotion will have to earn a Euro 2024 invite beforehand.
That is where things begin to get rather convoluted and instead of relying on favours elsewhere Shevchenko and his players will be better off taking the fight to both the two giants of Group C. A fight that begins on Sunday.
Now that Harry Kane has finally got the England goal record in his possession, the Tottenham forward can relax ever so slightly. The burden has been lifted and now he can cause more misery for opposition defences.
However, a more relaxed Kane may also allow the goals to be shared on Sunday and with Bukayo Saka looking just as exciting in England white as he does in Arsenal red, I am shining my goalscoring spotlight on him instead.
Admittedly, Gareth Southgate does have plenty of options when it comes to the wide forward roles. But it is incredibly hard to make a case against Saka right now. The manager certainly seems confident in him and I am confident that the 21-year-old finds the net.
Saka to find the net but not the same joy for their Ukrainian opposition. Their last visit to Britain saw them go home empty-handed and without an addition on the score, I have a hunch that the same will happen at Wembley.
An eventual win for England but one where they have to ease their way into the game. With this in mind, I reckon a stalemate in the first 10 minutes is recorded and this is also going on my betting slip.
While because I have backed England to win to nil, I do not envisage there being an emphatic number of goals being scored. Anything up to a 3-0 win is covered with my last pick and when all four are combined, the pre-match odds are 8.50.
