It’s a fascinating quarter-final. Belgium and Italy are the only two sides left in the competition with 100% records. The Italians needed extra time to get their round of 16 match but maintained that winning streak.
Belgium have enjoyed a good tournament. Roberto Martinez’s men topped Group B with maximum points. They beat Denmark, Finland and Russia to reach the knockout stage. There they met the holders Portugal. Belgium got through 1-0 after a goal from Thorgan Hazard but it wasn’t easy for the Red Devils.
Italy’s tournament has followed a similar pattern. They breezed through Group A with three wins and three clean sheets. They beat Turkey, Switzerland and Wales to secure top spot in the group. Roberto Mancini’s men hit their first roadblock in the round of 16. Austria took them to extra time at Wembley but goals from Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina secured a 2-1 win.
That sets up this interesting match. Belgium and Italy have met four times before in major tournaments. All those fixtures came in the group stage of either the Euros or the FIFA World Cup. It’s a fixture that the Azzurri have dominated. Italy are the side that Belgium has played against the most often in major tournaments without winning.
It promises to be a quality match. These are two of the best-performing sides at the tournament thus far. Only Spain and Germany have had a higher percentage of ball possession in their Euro 2021 matches than these two. Italy and Belgium boast similar stats for pass accuracy and chance creation.
No side has created more chances in this tournament than the Azzurri. Roberto Mancini’s men have had an average of 20.0 shots per match, 16.3 of which came from open play. Belgium are the only side that has scored more goals in this tournament from open play than Italy.
The Red Devils are the outsiders here. It’s 2.15 for Belgium to qualify for the semi-finals of this tournament for the first time since 1980. Italy are the favourites to qualify at 1.71.

It’s a difficult match to call so a draw seems reasonable. Betting on the draw is usually a good option at major tournaments, as we showed. Euro 2021 is no exception after half of the matches in the round of 16 went to extra time. Backing the draw in each of the round of 16 matches so far had an 88% profit.
Expect the match to open up in the second half as both sides push for the win. Over on Belgian corners is reasonable and we should see some goals after the break.
