Roberto Martinez’s men are amongst the favourites to win this competition. They haven’t made it further than the quarters since they finished runners-up in 1980. This golden generation of talent needs to fulfil its promise.
But Russia are aiming to repeat their achievements of the past. Manager Stanislav Cherchesov led his side to the 2018 World Cup quarter-finals. This tournament is about proving that it wasn’t a one-off.
But it’s a daunting task. Belgium are on the cusp of greatness and have shown consistency in the last decade. They’ve made it to at least the quarter-final stage in the last three major tournaments. France are the only other nation to achieve that.
These sides have never met before in the European Championship. They have faced off at the World Cup multiple times, most recently back in 2014. Belgium won that match, as they have done on each of the last three occasions. Russia won the first two meetings.
This match will have a big impact on Group B. Belgium are vying to top the group and secure the easier draw that comes with it. Russia want to reach the next stage of the competition. Denmark are their main rivals in that quest so it’s important they don’t fall too far behind.
It’s no surprise to see that Belgium are the big favourites to win this one. Roberto Martinez’s men are 1.70 to secure the three points in Group B. It’s 3.70 for a draw and 5.00 for Russia to secure a shock win. All odds are from bet365 and are correct as of 12:00 pm on 11 June 2021.

A comfortable win for Belgium seems likely here. The Red Devils are the better side on paper and are in fine form. They have a wealth of goalscoring options so a big win wouldn’t be a huge surprise.
Romelu Lukaku is the obvious threat. He’s had a fine season for Inter Milan and an eye-catching record in the group stage of this tournament. Lukaku scored the opener in Belgium’s win over Croatia last weekend. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him grab another here.
With this attacking lineup comes chances. Yannick Carrasco is a player to watch in this tournament after a fine season for Atletico. He doesn’t need a second invitation to shoot. Over 0.5 shots on target is likely.
