Group F was always going to be tight with the winners of the last three major tournaments. France top the table even after that disappointing 1-1 draw with Hungary.
The 1-0 win against Germany in matchday 1 may have a big impact on the group. It means that France are already through to the knockout stage. Four points will be enough to qualify in third place but Didier Deschamps will want to top the group. The group winners have a much easier draw than the runners-up.
Portugal can get there too. They don’t need much to get into the knockout stage. If Portugal avoid losing to France by three or more goals then they will get there. They have three points and +1 goal difference. Ukraine and Finland are two of the other 3rd-place qualifiers and they have -1 and -2 goal difference respectively. Even a two-goal defeat will seal it for Portugal as they have outscored Ukraine.
But Fernando Santos will want more. Portugal can still top the group if they beat France and Germany fail to win against Hungary. The chances of that are slim at odds of 17.00.
This is a rematch of the Euro 2016 final. Portugal won 1-0 in Paris five years ago but these sides have met since then. They faced off twice in the UEFA Nations League towards the end of 2020. The sides drew 0-0 in Paris but France won 1-0 in Lisbon after a goal from N’Golo Kante.
There wasn’t much between the sides in those matches and there hasn’t been much in this tournament. France and Portugal have identical pass completion percentages and similar stats for shot creation and possession.
France have been better at progressing into the box. Les Bleus have an average of 7 shots per match in the penalty area. Portugal have only had 5. That’s impressive for France considering Portugal have scored more than twice as many goals as them.
Les Bleus are the favourites to win this match. They are 2.25 to get three vital points that will secure top spot in Group F. It’s 2.90 for a draw and 3.80 for Portugal to win.

We shouldn’t expect a high-scoring match. That has been the case in each of the last four fixtures between these two nations. One goal should be enough for either side to secure the result here.
These are two disciplined sides. France’s Benjamin Pavard and Portugal’s Ruben Dias picked up yellow cards in their respective matches against Hungary. They are the only two players on either side with bookings at Euro 2021. Under 2 cards seems fair.
Expect Portugal’s Ruben Dias to see a lot of the ball. He has attempted the second-highest number of passes in Group F so far. Only Germany’s Toni Kroos has attempted more.
