Spain are eager for success after a difficult decade. Gone are the days of sustained success for La Roja. They haven’t made it past the round of 16 in a major tournament since 2012. Manager Luis Enrique has made some bold decisions – most notably dropping Spain’s record appearance-maker Sergio Ramos. This adds to the pressure to succeed.
But things haven’t started well. Captain Sergio Busquets is one of a couple of players set to miss the match after a positive Covid 19 test. They’ll miss this one but there are quality replacements. Rodri will likely step into midfield alongside Thiago Alcantara and Koke.
It’s a similar story for Sweden. Star man Dejan Kulusevski is out after he tested positive for coronavirus. But once again, there is quality coming into the side. Emil Forsberg, Alex Isak, and Seb Larsson should feature.
Every match matters at a major tournament. This is no exception even if Sweden aren’t Spain’s main challengers for top spot. That will likely be Poland but Blagult can’t fall too far behind. Sweden can’t fall too far behind their rivals and every goal will matter.
But there is a lack of obvious goalscorers on both sides. Sweden’s Robin Quaison was their top scorer in qualifying. He’s only found the net six times in 28 Bundesliga matches for Mainz this campaign. Alvaro Morata was Spain’s biggest threat in qualifying but they can lean on Gerard Moreno. He had an outstanding season for Villarreal and will be a threat.
Spain are the big favourites to secure the win. They are 1.36 to get all three points and start off well. It’s 4.75 for a draw and 9.50 for a Sweden victory.

It’s a match that Spain should dominate. They have the better players and are in good form. La Roja have the quality in midfield to create plenty of chances and threats up top.
Ferran Torres and Gerard Moreno both enjoyed excellent seasons for their club. They have also started their international careers with plenty of goals between them. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see both names on the scoresheet.
We haven’t seen too many first-half goals in the competition this season. Expect that to continue with more goals to go in after the break than before.
