With only five games remaining in the Premier League, teams are fighting tooth and nail for the title and survival, and with that, Matthew O’Regan is on hand to serve up a Nottingham Forest vs Everton prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.

So much is on the line. Three points changes a season at this late stage. Who leaves the City Ground the most content on Sunday?

Everton vs Nottingham Forest Prediction 1: Late Handbags

England, Premier League, Saturday, April 21st, 13:30 (UK)

Both teams have made the headlines for the wrong reasons this season, with points deductions owing to their financial misconduct. This has thrown the relegation battle wide open.

The Toffees are just two points clear of safety, one point and one place ahead of Sunday’s visitors. Sean Dyche’s side comes into this after a 6-0 drubbing at Chelsea, which lacked any resilience or any sort of resemblance to a Sean Dyche side.

Despite the hammering, Everton managed to pick up four cards, as their players grew frustrated at their lack of threat. Two of these came in the second half. Over their last ten Premier League games, Everton have had 2 second half cards in half of these.

Nottingham Forest are also in a precarious position after just two wins (in normal time) in their last 16. Tensions are also high at the City Ground, with controversial owner Evangelos Marinakis having invested heavily in the playing squad. Over their last six away games, Nottingham Forest have picked up 2+ second-half cards in five.

Both managers have developed a reputation for their defensive style of football, with Nuno and Dyche both deploying a ‘win at all costs’ mentality. This should lead to a feisty second half as both teams scrap to keep their Premier League status.

  • Nottingham Forest vs Everton Prediction 1: Over 1 Second Half Card Each (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 4.20
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 7/10

Everton vs Nottingham Forest Prediction 2: Wood the Talisman

Two summers ago, Taiwo Awoniyi was signed from German side Union Berlin after an impressive 15 goals in the Bundesliga. An injury-ravaged first season saw the Nigerian score ten goals in 27 Premier League appearances. His goals seemed to have kept Forest up and there was real hope he would push on this season.

Unfortunately,  injuries have become a common theme for the 26-year-old as he has yet to start a game since February.

However, an unlikely hero in Chris Wood has emerged to keep Forest’s survival hopes alive. The New Zealander was deemed surplus to requirements earlier in the season but has been called upon in recent weeks.

The 31-year-old has now started 15 games this season, scoring 12, including four in his last five. With the pace and skill of Morgan Gibb-White, Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi behind him, Wood has been blessed with service.

If Forest are to survive, Chris Wood maintaining his run of form is imperative. He is an appealing price to add to his ever-growing goal tally on Sunday.

  • Everton vs Nottingham Forest Prediction 2: Chris Wood to Score
  • Best Odds: 3.60
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 5/10

Everton vs Nottingham Forest Prediction 3: Not So Sweet Toffees

As mentioned, this is a huge game for both teams. Relegation could have catastrophic effects on either side, with both squads bloated and riddled with inflated wages.

Both managers will have been told just how important a positive result is on Sunday, and the two passionate gaffers will have their sides fired up.

Everton games have averaged 3.8 cards in them. Nottingham Forest games have seen an average of 4.95 cards, with the Reds drawing the most red cards (6) in the league.

Both sides have seen at least five cards in their matches in the last two. While the last fixture was a timid affair with only one card, the fixture towards the end of last season with similar end-of-season repercussions saw a whopping eight cards, with seven coming in the second half. In this game, there were a couple of boiling points that led to a flurry of cards.

The referee for this crunch tie is Christopher Kavanagh. He is averaging just shy of four cards per game. However, in the two Forest away games he’s overseen this season, he’s brandished five and six cards.

The magnitude of this game cannot be understated, and we should see plenty of cards at Goodison.

  • Everton vs Nottingham Forest Prediction 3: Over 4.5 Cards (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 10/10

Everton vs Nottingham Forest Team News and Possible Lineups: Both Teams Blessed With Availability

Perhaps due to the low-intensity football deployed by each side’s respective managers, neither side seem to have many injuries, however the 6-0 drubbing at Stamford Bridge saw a few players pick up knocks.

Dominic Calvert Lewin is doubtful for the hosts with a thigh injury, as well as Jarrad Branthwaite. Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson suffered more severe injuries.

Only Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly misses out for the visitors.

With both sides in dire runs of form, we could see both managers ring the changes.

Everton possible starting lineup:
Pickford; Godfrey, Branthwaite, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Mcneil, Gomes, Onana, Doucoure, Young; Beto

Nottingham Forest possible starting lineup:
Sels; Williams, Omobamidele, Murillo, Aina; Yates, Danilo; Elanga, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Wood
