Freiburg vs Frankfurt Prediction: Let’s be Frank, it’s good to have Omar back.
Germany, Bundesliga, Sunday, February 18th, 14:30 (UK)
This is a huge clash in the Bundesliga as 7th hosts 6th. Frankfurt occupy the final European place and hold a four point advantage over Freiburg.
Both sides have important home ties in Europe to navigate first on Thursday night before attention turns to the match at Europa-Park Stadion.
Freiburg are in a slump domestically and Saturday’s 3-0 defeat made it the first time since 2021 they had lost three successive league games. It was also the third time they conceded three goals following a 3-2 loss at Werder Bremen and a 3-1 defeat to Stuttgart in their last home game.
Frankfurt failed to make it four successive home wins after being held to a 1-1 draw by Bochum at Deutsche Bank Park. A match which saw Donny Van de Beek come on as an early substitute before being hauled off an hour later. A move which followed his omission from the Europa Conference League squad.
Dino Toppmoller’s side will be keen to bounce back from their last away day, a disappointing 2-0 defeat at relegation strugglers Cologne. They will feel confident of getting joy against the hosts who have the fifth worst defensive record in the division.
That confidence will be boosted by the return of Omar Marmoush from AFCON duty with Egypt where he scored one goal. The 25-year-old wasted no time in showing fans what they had been missing by opening the scoring for Eintracht in the 14th minute.
The forward scored six goals as well as providing three assists in his previous eight league starts before leaving for international duty. He had 26 attempts at goal across those games with at least three in five of them and he fired a further three shots in the 64 minutes he was on the pitch in his return against Bochum.

Freiburg vs Frankfurt Team News and Possible Lineups: Frankfurt without sidekick Robin
Although SC Freiburg are currently seventh in the table, they have already suffered nine defeats in the current Bundesliga season (the highest number of any team in the top half of the table) – the last time the Breisgau team had as many defeats after 21 Bundesliga games was in the 2016/17 season (also 9 defeats).
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Robin Koch will miss his third Bundesliga game of the season against Freiburg; Eintracht went winless in their previous two games (2-2 against Werder, 1-2 against Stuttgart). The central defender has a passing accuracy of 87.7% and a duel success rate of 62% in the current Bundesliga season – both of which are the best figures for the club (among outfield players with at least 350 minutes played).
Omar Marmoush scored his eighth Bundesliga goal of the season (Eintracht Frankfurt top scorer) in the 1- 1 draw against VfL Bochum. He has scored six of his goals this season in the first 15 minutes of a game, which is a league best and an SGE record in a Bundesliga season (with Bernd Nickel in 1971-72).
Freiburg possible starting lineup:
Atubolu, Makengo, Gulde, Sildillia; Kübler, Höfler, Eggerstein, Grifo; Gregoritsch, Sallai; Höler
Frankfurt possible starting lineup:
Grahl; Max, Pacho, Koch, Buta; Larsson, Götze, Skhiri, Chaibi, Marmoush; Knauff
