It’s the first match of a brand new season in England and we’ve got Huddersfield vs Burnley bet builder tips. The Championship kicks off this Friday with an eye-catching match between two of the division’s biggest clubs. Vincent Kompany is in the dugout for the visitors and will be aiming for the perfect start on his managerial debut in England.
In this article:
Friday, July 29th, 20:00 (UK Time)
Huddersfield and Burnley supporters will likely make their way through the turnstiles of the John Smith’s Stadium in contrasting mindsets. Needless to say, those making the short local trip within Yorkshire will be hesitant about the season ahead.
Carlos Corberán jumped ship a matter of weeks before Friday’s Championship opener. The Spaniard’s two-year spell as Terriers boss was halted, with Corberán stating that he’s the right person to take the club forward. Yet, reading through the lines and seeing the subsequent activity in the transfer market, perhaps the ambition of Huddersfield’s hierarchy didn’t match that of the want-away head coach.
Six of the eleven players who started the playoff final at Wembley have followed Corberán out of the door. The most notable were included in a double transfer swoop by Nottingham Forest. As a result, Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo will now be calling the banks of the River Trent home every other Saturday.
So, it’s no wonder that Terriers fans may be somewhat cautious when predicting the season ahead. The top six will likely be a stretch, a feat that their Friday opponents will hope comes comfortably to a new-look Burnley outfit.
Different personnel on the pitch, new owners ready to experience their first full season as Burnley head-honchos, and a fresh-faced management team in the Clarets’ dressing room. Scott Twine, Josh Cullen, and Luke McNally are just three of the new faces in the door, a trio in the run-in to start on Friday evening.
With this being the season’s opening game, it’s essential to tread carefully from a betting perspective. We have limited-to-no data for the two new-look outfits, there are plenty of question marks over the starting eleven, and we’re none the wiser in how either side may approach the game.
As a single, the Burnley 0.0 Asian Handicap at 2.00 would be my go-to, but as we’re looking to structure a bet builder, the fixture needs to be approached differently.
Burnley to clinch three points is the first addition. The 2.60 price is value, though playing away from home in front of a packed crowd will be tough. However, with the positivity within Kompany’s camp on a high compared to how the home dressing room may be fairing, Burnley to summon a result seems like a good starting point.
Originally, the meat of the bet builder selection was Dwight McNeil to have two shots. However, the news surfacing on Wednesday regarding Everton being steps away from signing him meant a last-ditch alteration to the proposed bet builder. Thankfully, lady luck is shining down on us with the referee appointment of James Linnington.
Linnington’s 3.70 second-half cards average across 27 fixtures is the standout stat for me in 2021/22, making up his 4.93 cards brandished per90 total figure. Both teams were shown a booking in 70% of the official’s matches, suggesting it may be a wise play for the season opener.
Both sides will be intent on putting a marker down on Friday evening. The hosts will be confident of getting on the scoresheet in front of home support. At home in 2021/22, the Terriers registered 1.52 goals per90. This season’s Huddersfield Town are a different proposition, as are Burnley, but it’s a pairing which should encourage goals. To increase the odds to more of a longshot play, adding over one total match goal gets us to 5.50. That will do.
Bet Builder odds: 5.50
