Jimmy’s Punt: Friday, April 7th

The column has found one winner in 14 attempts this season, securing profit for the campaign, which is a bonus.

The last few picks have not even gone close though, and keen to stop the rot, I have played it safe with a 110.00 bet from the multiscorer market this weekend.

It comes via the Championship where inform stoke welcome Bristol City.

In this article:

Stoke vs Bristol City Preview

Friday, April 6, 15:00 (UK)

Seven games to go, Stoke sit in 13th on 51 points, 10 points away from 6th place.

It is probably rational to assume a late play off push is out of the question, but the Potters form will have fans looking forward to the next campaign.

Alex Neil’s side have strung together a fine run of results.

Their 1-5 victory at the Stadium of Light looked a freak result but has proved not to be a flash in the pan. It has been followed by a 3-2 victory over Blackburn, draws against Middlesbrough and Norwich and a 0-4 thumping at Coventry.

They welcome Bristol City, who only sit a place below and two points behind the Potters, though Nigel Pearson’s side are moving in the opposite direction.

Two wins from the last nine, the Robins have picked up 10 league points since mid-February.

I know 10 points from nine games in the second tier does not sound too bad, but you need to consider the opposition.

Bristol City have played each of the current bottom five over that period, Wigan, Cardiff, Huddersfield, Blackpool and Reading, winning only one game.

Stoke vs Bristol City Best Bet

There have been plenty of standout performers during Stoke’s purple patch.

Tyrese Campbell has helped himself to four goals, Dwight Gayle has a couple and Willy Smallbone is also thriving in a more advanced role.

Goal-scoring right back, Ki-Jana Hoever, looks the best value in the goalscorer market though.

The Wolves loanee made the switch from PSV and since doing so has started seven games, racking up 10 shots in total.

He has had at least two shots in each of his last four starts, clearly a player who does not mind a crack. Stoke actually rank fourth for shots per game in the Championship averaging 13.5, and Bristol City concede the fourth most of any side in the division away from home (13.9).

It is also worth noting the Robins have only won one of their last seven and over that period, opposition full backs have racked up 11 shots.

Harry Darling, operating at right back in a flat back four for Swansea hit four recently which suggests Hoever will get chances on Friday.

Hoever has hit the double against Rovers, he also found the net against Boro and Coventry. It is a small sample size but those four goals translate to a goals per 90 average of 0.54.

In terms of xG, he is averaging 0.24 per game, which certainly gives us scope for value on the 111.00 about a brace, and goes a little way to explaining why the same bet is as short as 50/1 elsewhere.

  • Selection: Ki-Jana Hoever Anytime Goalscorer
  • Best Odds: 111.00 (Vbet)
  • Stakes: 5/10

Odds as at 14:30 April 6th 2023. Odds may now differ.
