Leicester City v Coventry: Will the sky blues prove happy hunting for the foxes?

Both Teams To Score – Yes

Whenever Leicester City are involved, backing goals is usually one of the first thoughts. The Foxes scored more goals (51) than any other side who finished in the bottom half last season.

Coventry ended their Championship campaign with 58 goals, 28 of which were scored on their travels. Viktor Gyokeres played a massive part in their 5th-place finish, but the Swede departed for Sporting over the summer.

Ellis Simms has moved over from Everton, he’ll provide plenty of energy to the Coventry attack, but it’ll take a hugely impressive season to repeat the 31 goal contributions that Gyokeres produced in 22/23.

The goal line is set reasonably high in this one, with the overs priced around 1.75, whilst BTTS is available at 1.83. Since the turn of the year, Coventry found the back of the net in 17 of their 22 Championship matches. They’ll thrive on the fact that they’re underdogs and will give the hosts a run for their money.

The Leicester squad is powerful, but with a new coach and style of play, I’m not sure how quickly they can adapt. There are huge expectations on Maresca and his players, which can also play a pivotal part over the opening number of weeks.

Both Teams To Receive A Card

This opening-round clash is on Sky Sports. It’s set to be a great watch between two sides who’ll be expected to be in and amongst the higher end of the table come the end of the season.

Darren Bond is in charge of the lunchtime kick-off between the sides situated less than an hour apart. Bond does enjoy getting involved. He has refereed 16 matches in 2023 and has cautioned each side on 15 separate occasions. Bristol City were the only fortunate team to escape.

Mark Robins’ side picked up a card in 22 of their 23 away days last season. Leicester were on the lower end when it came to cards awarded, but given their at home on the opening day in a new division with something to prove, the players will be expected to put up a fight.

Wilfred Ndidi, Wout Faes and Boubakary Soumare picked up 20 cards between them last season; they’re all suspects in potentially overstepping the mark. Harry Souttar received six cautions in 19 league appearances last campaign.

Kelechi Iheanacho Anytime Goalscorer

With Leicester’s relegation, you’d wonder how many of the Foxes’ squad would get snapped up from the league above. Kelechi Iheanacho is most certainly a Premier League-level striker. I expect him to thrive in the second tier of English football.

The Nigerian has bagged just nine league goals across the previous two campaigns, but he’s amongst the leading pack in the ‘Top Goalscorer’ charts. Leicester have one of if not the best, squad in the division, and Kelechi has the capabilities of spearheading his side straight back up.

Leicester’s number 14 recorded 3.1 shots per 90 last term with 1.1 hitting the target, not bad for a side who looked dreadful at times in a league above.

Kelechi will have plenty more opportunities than he did in the Premier League, he’s one of the best strikers in the division, and if you give him time and space, he’ll punish you for it.
