Man United has been a big positive surprise this season with a lot of good performances, which so far have brought them a Carabao Cup trophy and a spot in the top three at this moment in time.

Erik ten Hag was appointed as the new manager of Manchester United and he brought two players with him that he knows very well from his time at Ajax Amsterdam.

Lisandro Martinez and Antony were signed with high expectations from the fans and we spoke to the former Man United star, Mikael Silvestre, who shared his thoughts on the two players that Man United signed during the summer transfer window.

Lisandro Martinez has answered his doubters

Lisandro Martinez has been an absolute keyplayer for Man United this season but some people were doubting his ability to play as a centre half in the Premier League because of his height. According to Silvestre, the Argentinian has now shown the doubters that he was a very good signing for Man United.

“Martinez had one bad game which was against Brentford but so did the rest of the team. His performances have been very, very good.”

“People were questioning his height but there have been many centre backs who haven’t been the tallest but have an amazing jump and compensate for their height by being tactically smart and having a desire to win their duels.”

“He’s answered his doubters and he’s a very good signing for Manchester United.”

This is where Antony could improve

Antony was another player that was brought to Man United by Erik ten Hag and there were very high expectations for the Dutchman when he arrived. Even though it has been a bit up and down for the winger, Silvestre has been impressed by him. But the former Man United defender also leaves a suggestion on where Antony could improve to have an even bigger influence for Man United.

“Antony has belief in himself. His qualities are taking on players and creating chances with the ball.”

“He can also run into space without the ball because he is quite quick. He did well at Ajax because he has confidence in himself.”

Silvestre says that the winger might need to take lesser touches on the ball and shares his opinion on how Antony can overcome the physical defenders in the Premier League.

“That’s why he went to the World Cup with Brazil. But sometimes he takes too many touches on the ball and it will cost him’

‘Defenders are going to be physical against him but he has the courage and technical ability to survive that.”
