I’ve gone for a Sunday afternoon bet builder at odds of 9.00 as Liverpool play host to Everton and with both clubs needing a league win for far differing reasons, it will add an extra element to an already intriguing Merseyside derby.

Although Liverpool found themselves at the top of the table on Tuesday, their rise to the highest heights was only temporary and with Manchester City wrestling back that same position 24 hours later, it is a case of as you were in the title race.

With Manchester City scheduled to play before Liverpool this weekend, it has the ability to swing the Premier League pendulum further in their direction and if Pep Guardiola’s men do get the better of Watford as expected, it will only ask another question of the Anfield outfit.

In fairness though, each time Liverpool have been asked a question by their Etihad counterparts, they have managed to find the correct answer and in doing so, have managed to create a title race worthy of classic status.

This means if the gap at the top is extended to four points by the end of Saturday’s encounter, Liverpool are going to have to clear the hurdle that their nearest neighbours will look to put in front of them.

A hurdle constructed by Everton and with them currently possessing a four-point gap of their own (that being before Burnley take to the field against Southampton on Thursday), that is a margin they will hope to keep over the Clarets.

Then again, it could well have been only three by the time Wednesday’s clash with Leicester came to an end and were it not for a dramatic late equaliser from Richarlison, it would have been the Foxes who left Goodison Park with a maximum points haul in their pocket.

However, there are shoots of resilience starting to form in the blue half of Merseyside and for those who fancy the former Watford forward to silence the Kop at some point this weekend, you can back the Brazilian to score anytime at odds of 5.50.

With that said, if Richarlison or any of his Everton teammates are to score at Anfield, they are going to have their work cut out and the same could be said for the Toffee’s defence, as manager Frank Lampard looks to avoid a similar mauling to the one that Manchester United were recently dealt.
