The La Liga is nearing its final ten matches and Nathan Joyes is on hand to provide his Mallorca vs Granada prediction, team news, and lineups preview.
While the hosts continue to climb the table and to a safe position away from the prospect of La Liga 2, the visitors can’t buy a win as the possibility of relegation looms large. Our Mallorca vs Granada prediction is for the match to end 2-1.
Spain, La Liga, Saturday, March 16th, 13:00 (UK)
Mallorca’s much-improved form has seen them move eight points away from the relegation zone and well on their way to retaining their La Liga status.
The same can’t be said for Granada, who are ten points adrift. Although they have a game in hand, against seventh placed Real Sociedad is far from an easy fixture.
The hosts have the advantage of an eight-day break between their last match (1-0 defeat vs Barcelona) and facing Granada, which is another (although small) benefit for Mallorca.
In their last five matches, Mallorca have shown a more resilient edge to their game. Although they lost to Real Sociedad in the final minute, they had ten men for an entire half. Against Barcelona, it took a special goal from Lamine Yamal to claim the three points.
But a 1-0 win at home vs Girona stands out. They went toe-to-toe with one of the best in the league this year and matched them, where defender Jose Copete’s goal was the difference.
Their opponents haven’t won on the road all season, claiming just two points from 13 matches. A 5-1 hammering last time out on the road to Villarreal tells you all you need to know, as they look destined to drop.
Around evens is a great price for Mallorca to almost cement their place in La Liga next season.
Although Granada’s away form has been nothing short of horrendous, they have started to find the back of the net in recent weeks. In fact, they’ve scored in four of their last five matches as they’ve secured three draws in the process.
Although they fell apart against Villarreal, they didn’t completely fold, scoring in the 90th minute when the game was completely gone. Prior to that, they managed to surprise everyone and scored three away to Barcelona.
None of the goals were penalties, as Granada finally showed what they are capable of in front of goal – albeit too late in the season.
This fixture has often produced plenty of goals. Earlier in the season, Granada came out on top 3-2 in front of their own fans. In 2022, Granada hammered Mallorca 6-2, and the scoreline was 4-1 in 2021.
The squads may have changed for both teams since those earlier meetings, but Granada are capable of scoring on the road, which is why an odds-against tip catches the eye.
In four of Granada’s last five matches, they’ve fallen behind within the first 45 minutes, which is why they are languishing towards the bottom of the table.
While Mallorca aren’t best known for their flurry of goals, they’ve managed to score in the first half in their last two matches on home soil. As their confidence begins to return, they’ve shown a more attacking edge to their game in their fight for survival.
The hosts aren’t reliant on a forward to necessarily produce the goods, either, which opens up their options.
Defender Jose Copete was the hero against Girona, midfielder Antonio Sanchez opened the scoring vs Real Sociedad, as he did vs Rayo Vallecano last month.
With options across the pitch, Granada can’t target one player in particular to keep them at bay. If we’re expecting goals, as this fixture often throws up, Mallorca are a good price to score in the first 45 minutes once again.
Mallorca vs Granada Prediction odds via bet365 as at 12:00, March 11th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Neither side have any fresh injury concerns to worry about, while there’s also no sign of long-term injuries coming back in time for this fixture.
Granada’s Gerard Gumbau will return to the matchday squad after he was suspended for the Villarreal game for an accumulation of yellow cards.
The visitors will be hoping forward Myrto Uzuni can return to the scoresheet, as their top goalscorer (seven) will be their main hope if they are to secure their first away win of the season in La Liga.
Mallorca possible starting lineup: Rajkovic; Lato, Copete, Raillo, Valjent, Gonzalez Apud, Sanchez, Mascarell, Rodriguez, Muriqi, Larin
Granada possible starting lineup: Batalla; Neva, Rubio, Piatkowski, Sanchez, Ruiz, Hongla, Villar, Pellistri, Melendo, Uzuni
