We have Manchester United vs Leeds United bet builder tips for you ahead of their midweek clash in the Premier League. It’s a local derby with a fiery history. This one will be crucial for both sides with manager-less Leeds desperate for points to stay in the division and Man United chasing the title.
In this article:
England, Premier League, Wednesday, February 8th, 20:00 (UK)
Manchester United host Leeds just two days after Jesse Marsch was sacked by Leeds United. Erik Ten Hag’s side have already been victims of the new manager bounce this season when they were beaten by Aston Villa in Unai Emery’s first game in charge at Villa Park. They will want to ensure that doesn’t happen against Leeds.
Man United edged past Crystal Palace in their last match. They were coasting until Casemiro was dismissed in the second half. A goal from Jeffrey Schlupp mean there was a nervy 15 minutes for the home side as they saw the game out.
Ten Hag has successfully turned his side around this season. They remain in with a chance of winning all three cup competitions. The Reds are also firmly on track for a place in the top four.
Leeds were beaten by Premier League newcomers, Nottingham Forest in their last game. The defeat has put them right in the thick of a relegation battle. The board decided it was time for a change after a torrid run of form.
The Leeds supporters would love nothing more than getting one over Man United. This rivalry has bubbled off the field since Leeds returned to the top flight but they have seldom been able to lay a glove on Man United on the pitch. Former Man United defender Mikael Silvestre played down the rivalry in our recent interview, saying “It’s not a Liverpool or City level rivalry.”
Leeds matches have seen a huge number of tackles under both Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch. The team has pressed intensely for a number of years and it seems unlikely that this approach will be abandoned in the near future.
These teams meet twice in a week and Old Trafford should be rocking for this one. The atmosphere at this fixture last season was electric and this, along with the high tackle numbers, should mean that we see a lot of fouls. The last match between Leeds’ and Man United saw 32 fouls in the match.
The last meeting between these sides is remembered for being a goal-fest, but there was also an abundance of cards. There were three cards in injury time in the second half and nine in the match. The Leeds fans’ frustrations boiled over after last week’s defeat and that aggression could spill over onto the pitch against their rivals. Leeds have picked up at least two yellow cards in their last four away games in the league and are averaging 2.8 per game in their last five.
The visitors will be without Casemiro as he serves his suspension but they remain clear favourites for this one. Man United have put Leeds to the sword on several occasions in recent seasons. Marcus Rashford continued his fine form by netting against Crystal Palace at the weekend. Expect Marcus and co. to have plenty of joy going forward here.
In Leeds’ last two visits to this ground, they have conceded five and six goals. Interim coach, Chris Armas, will be keen to keep things tight early doors. Armas served as assistant to Ralf Ragnick at Old Trafford during an ill-fated spell. The home side are the deserved favourites for this one.
