After last Saturday’s narrow win over Everton, the Premier League pendulum has swung back in Manchester City’s favour. Although 2nd-place Liverpool have a game in hand, there is a lot to be said about points on the board.

While it is three more points on the board that City will be looking to add this Sunday. This derby day encounter has extra spice and their Manchester neighbours would love to play the role of spoilers.

That is a big ask of United after their own efforts at the weekend. That stuttering 0-0 draw at home to Watford had a sense of opportunity missed for the Red Devils.

An opportunity, that although saw them extend their unbeaten run to eight Premier League matches, that could prove costly. It was something of a misstep considering both West Ham and Arsenal are hunting Ralf Rangnick’s men down. This could be the weekend in which they are swallowed up.

Then again, the red half of Manchester does have a habit of blowing both hot and cold in equal measures. For that reason alone, they have become one of the more frustrating teams to back this season.

With that said, they will also look to frustrate their crosstown rivals on Sunday. Although one of Liverpool’s biggest foes failed to do them a favour last weekend, the Merseyside men will hope that another of their enemies can topple City at the Etihad.

Of course, it is hope rather than expectation and when you consider that Pep Guardiola’s cabal of superstars have won 15 of their last 17 Premier League outings. It is no surprise that they are favourites to win the next chapter of this storied Manchester rivalry.

I’m backing a win for the blue half of Manchester on Sunday and not only that, I think they will get their noses in front at the interval as well. In addition to this, I feel that it may be a slightly cagey affair and therefore, I have plumped for under three goals at the Etihad.
