Manchester United vs Arsenal Bet Builder: Sunday, September, 4th

There’s a huge match at Old Trafford this Sunday afternoon, so read on for my Manchester United vs Arsenal bet builder tips. This clash may not carry the influence in the title race it did at the start of the millennium. There will be no Alex Ferguson vs Arsene Wenger touchline pyrotechnics. The sides won’t be led out by Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira. But there is excitement bubbling at both clubs who know a win here will make a statement.

Manchester United vs Arsenal Preview

Sunday, September 4th, 16:30 (UK)

Arsenal visit Old Trafford defending the only 100% record in the Premier League. Therefore knowing if they take another three points back to North London they will remain top of the table. They swept aside Aston Villa in midweek. The 2-1 scoreline was not a true reflection of their dominance.

Mikel Arteta’s side are now looking to become only the fifth different side to win their opening six EPL matches in a season. The Gunners last did so in the top-flight in 1947-48. They went on to win the title that year. Arsenal have won just one of their last 15 league away games against Man Utd (D5 L9). The 1-0 victory in November 2020 was the last successful visit to the Theatre of Dreams.

Erik ten Hag will be keen to see his side follow up their last outing in front of their own fans. A determined 2-1 victory over Liverpool was unrecognisable in terms of intensity and desire. A maiden win for the Dutchman’s tenure roared on by an exhilarated crowd.

The Red Devils have won just one of their last eight Premier League games against Arsenal. However, that victory was in this exact fixture last season (3-2). The Gunners exacted revenge at the Emirates in April (3-1).

Traditionally a feisty affair we should see a contest with plenty of spark. The last nine meetings have seen 41 yellow cards. Six of those clashes have seen both teams receive at least two cards. The most recent head-to-head resulted in seven cards. Three for Arsenal and four for United.

Referee Paul Tierney has already shown 16 yellow cards and two reds in his first four EPL appointments of the season. He booked four Man Utd players in their opening day defeat here to Brighton.

The last time he officiated a Gunners game was in May last season. A game to forget for Mikel Arteta and his men. Not only losing to arch-rivals Spurs but seeing Rob Holding sent off for two bookable offences. Three other Arsenal players were also booked. Tierney issued the second-highest number of yellow cards in the EPL last season (103). He also brandished five reds with only Michael Oliver showing more (7).

Manchester United have kept just one clean sheet in their last 16 Premier League meetings with Arsenal. At home, they’ve conceded in their last eight against the Gunners since a 1-0 win in November 2013. Scoring as well as conceding in both Old Trafford fixtures this season.

Arsenal have shown in their last two games how they still have a mistake in them at the back. Gabriel was caught on the ball on the edge of his own box for Fulham’s opener. Douglas Luiz managed to curl a corner straight into the back of the net for Villa in midweek. With each of the sides carrying a threat in the final third I can’t see either side keeping a clean sheet.

  • Both teams to receive 2+ cards in the match
  • Both teams to score
