Monza vs Verona Prediction: Monza to keep on track

Italy, Serie A, Sunday, February 11th, 14:00 (UK)

Monza will be pleased to be playing in front of a crowd again this weekend. Their goalless draw with Udinese was played out in an empty Bluenergy Stadium. The lack of any atmosphere transferred onto the pitch, with both sides lucky to score nil.

Another hard-fought point keeps Raffaele Palladino’s men a comfortable 11 points clear of the drop zone. Although there is a relatively small seven-point bridge to the European places, this looks like a mid-table finish and another year of consolidation.

The Biancorossi halted a slide down Serie A in their last home game, defeating Sassuolo by a goal to nil courtesy of their only shot on target. Quotes of 1.66 for under 2.5 goals suggest this is set to be another tight affair, but I am taking the home side to edge it.

Tight Affairs

Verona has been woeful on the road. Following an opening day win at Empoli, Marco Baroni’s side has picked up just two points from a possible 33, losing their last four.

That form sees them stuck in a relegation battle, and they are currently only out of the bottom three on goal difference. The Gialloblu have faced some tough assignments with recent trips to top-eight sides Napoli, Roma, Inter and Fiorentina, but having been consistently bad away throughout the campaign, I have to take them on.

The reverse fixture saw Monza cruise to a 3-1 win at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. Their first there in over 40 years. This one doesn’t promise to be quite so comprehensive, but odds of 2.05 on the hosts look well worth taking.

Monza vs Verona Team News and Possible Lineups

Camprari and Vignato are again set to miss out for Monza, though Jose Machin is back from AFCON commitments. January arrivals Maldini and Djuric will be in the squad once again, with the latter likely leading the line as he did in the 0-0 draw away in Udine last weekend.

Ruben Vinagre appeared from the bench in Verona’s loss to Napoli, but he’s touted as a potential starter here. Tijjani Noslin started up top in Naples following Djuric leaving for Monza, something that’s again likely for the Gialloblu.

Monza possible starting lineup:
Di Gregorio; D’Ambrosio, Mari, Caldirola; Birindelli, Gagliardini, Pessina, Ciurria; Colpani, Mota; Djuric

Verona possible starting lineup:
Montipo; Centonze, Dawidowicz, Magnani, Vinagre; Duda, Serdar; Suslov, Folorunsho, Lazovic; Noslin
