We’re set for an enthralling Super Sunday clash at St James’ Park where we have Newcastle v Arsenal bet builder tips.
A winless run of four games in April looks to have detailed the Gunners’ title challenge, and they could start the game four points behind rivals Manchester City, who play on Saturday.
Newcastle experienced a similar wobble much earlier in the campaign, not winning a single game in February. Credit has to go to Eddie Howe, who shuffled his deck and steadied the ship.
Champions League qualification now looks a formality, United are 1.08 to be playing on the continent next season. The Magpies need a few wins to get over the line and they wouldn’t mind one here.
In this article:
England, Premier League, Sunday, May 8th, 16:30 (UK)
By the time they kick off at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon, Manchester City could be four points clear at the top of the division, with a game in hand as well.
Arsenal’s capitulation has seen them drift to 13.00 to lift the title, giving them a 7.7% chance of ending their 20-year wait.
To put it simply, a third successive Man City title looks a cert which seems cruel on Mikel Arteta’s side when you consider they have sat at the top of the tree for almost 94% of the campaign.
The manner of their three consecutive draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton sapped their momentum, and any faint hope of a revival was crushed at the Etihad.
The Gunners’ capitulation runs parallel with William Saliba’s absence, which cannot be understated, nor can the lack of adequate cover, which Rob Holding and Jakub Kiwior clearly are not.
With Gabriel Magalhaes also a doubt here, that pairing should start their first league game together.
As for the hosts, their only change could see Anthony Gordon come in to facilitate both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak upfront.
The first leg of the bet builder is Fabian Schar to register two or more shots.
I wanted this leg to kick things off so I’ve used bet365 to create this Bet Builder. Their player shots market is extensive. There are as many as 10 players for either side to back to have anywhere from over 0.5 to over 4.5 shots in the match.
The defender has notched up an average of 1.4 this season, hitting this line in 13 of his 31 appearances.
While one of those was when these sides met at the Emirates, a 42% strike rate does not overly excite me, what does is the underlying data from Newcastle’s set pieces.
The Magpies top the Premier League charts for xG (17.46) and shots (175) from dead ball situations, averaging 5.3 of the latter per game.
It is also worth noting that set pieces have been Arsenal’s undoing in recent weeks.
John Stones found the net via a freekick when the Gunners went to the Etihad, Duje Caleta-Car bagged from a set piece for Southampton and Jarrod Bowen scored from the second phase of a long throw-in at the London Stadium.
So, Schar should get chances on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta could also be forced to play Jakub Kiwior alongside Rob Holding. This is a makeshift pairing that has not started any league games together.
There is a case to be made that the injury to William Saliba derailed Arsenal’s campaign, as he used to hide his side’s vulnerability on the counter. With Gabriel Magalhães also a doubt, the Newcastle double chance is the other selection here.
