Newcastle vs Manchester United Bet Builder Tips: Sunday, April 2nd

Premier League Super Sunday’s main event has every chance of living up to the hype and we’ve got Manchester United vs Newcastle bet builder tips.

The result of this will have huge nuances on the race for Champions League football.

The hosts failed to end a barren run of 68-years without a major trophy against their opponents. But this clash provides them with a great opportunity to rejoin Europe’s premier competition following a 20-year absence.

Victory would see them leapfrog Man United, though Sunday’s visitors have two games in hand.

Newcastle vs Manchester United Preview

Sunday, April 2nd, 16:30 (UK)

The last time these sides met was at Wembley in a game that saw Erik ten Hag win his first bit of silverware at Manchester United.

The Red Devils beat Newcastle 2-0 in the League Cup final but there were a couple of mitigating circumstances.

The first of which was Casemiro’s presence, United’s lynchpin and arguably most influential player since his arrival from Real Madrid in August.

Anybody who’s seen Man Utd with and without him in the heart of midfield will tell you that they are much worse in the Brazilian’s absence.

He brings a great deal of control to his side and is reflected by the numbers with United winning far fewer points, conceding more shots and inevitably more goals without him.

It goes without saying, he will be a huge miss on Sunday.

Newcastle were without Nick Pope on that Sunday evening in the big smoke as he was sent off the weekend before. A colossus in between the Magpies sticks, he has been a major factor in the visitors outperforming their xGA (28.97) by 10 goals.

His replacement, Loris Karius, was also at fault for one of the goals in the final.

With Pope available and Casemiro not for the sides meeting on Sunday, I think Newcastle have a much better chance of a result.

Newcastle vs Manchester United Stats & Facts

  • Prior to the break, Newcastle won 2 league games on the spin for the first time since the turn of the year
  • Eddie Howe’s side have only lost once at St James’ Park all season
  • Against sides in the current top 10, Fulham are the only team Man Utd have beaten in the EPL away from home this season, and that was courtesy of an injury time winner
  • Man Utd could be missing as many as 8 players for their trip to Tyneside. THe suspended Casemiro and injured Raphaël Varane are amongst the potential absentees

Newcastle vs Manchester United Bet Builder

Considering the above, I think siding with a Newcastle result is the way to go. The first leg of the bet builder is the hosts’ double chance.

Newcastle have only lost three league games all season, though it is worth noting two of those in their last four games.

Looking at the calibre of sides they lost too, and the circumstance, I am not too concerned though.

Aided largely by the aforementioned Pope red card, Liverpool beat them at St James’ Park last month. Though Eddie Howe’s side rallied well to generate an xG of 1.98.

The other recent defeat was away at the Etihad.

Those defeats did come amidst a winter lull in which Newcastle did not win a game over a period of five matches.

Howe responded well and shook things up tactically. The main switch saw Alexander Isak replace Callum Wilson up front and the big Swede has made the number nine slot his own with some scintillating performances.

United will be all too familiar with the threat of Newcastle’s record signing. Isak made a great impact from the bench at Wembley, he was a constant thorn, popping up in the half spaces to cause some real issues.

He hit a rich vein of form before international duty, racking up nine attempts and scoring thrice in two starts. The last of which was from the spot at the City Ground in injury time.

Safe to assume he will stay on penalties, his price to score anytime looks too good to ignore.

Combining it with a Newcastle double chance pays out at 3.40 with bet365.

  • Newcastle Double Chance
  • Alexander Isak Anytime Goalscorer

Bet Builder odds: 3.40
