Bottom side Nottingham Forest will be desperate for three points here in front of the home fans. It won’t come easy given how badly they’ve been performing. The newly-promoted club have lost five games on the bounce scoring in just two separate clashes despite the huge squad overhaul.

Given the poor start to the league season, Steve Cooper was on the verge of being axed from his job. However, the club appointed a new sporting director in Filippo Giraldi and gave the Welshman a new contract which keeps him in the job until 2025.

Steven Gerrard’s side sit just four places above their upcoming opponents on eight points from as many games played. They have earnt just a single point on the road so far this season scoring two goals from four outings.

But things may be changing as Villa have put in some decent performances in recent weeks. They are just one of two sides not to get beaten by a high-flying Manchester City. A win over the Saints and a goalless draw at Elland Road now puts them on a three-game unbeaten run.

The last league matches between these sides came during the 18/19 Championship season, Villa won 8-6 across the two games that campaign.
Aston Villa have lost the most games against newly promoted sides in Premier League history than any other side.
Villa fullback, Matty Cash has played for both clubs and made the switch to Villa in 2020.
Both of these clubs have won the European Cup before it changed into the Champions League in 1992/1993.

First off, I’m backing Forest to fire the shots on goal tonight. They have reached this line in all four home matches so far. With the side needing a win, they’ll have to put pressure on Villa in the attacking areas.

In fact, Steve Cooper’s side have achieved 10+ shots in six of their eight games this season. The exceptions came against Newcastle on the opening day and then at Manchester City where they still coughed up a respectable eight attempts.

I’ve dipped into the corner market which once again supports the home side. They’ve accumulated 18 corner kicks across their four home matches and have earnt four or more in every game except one.

Villa have conceded four or more corners in three of their four away trips. The exception came against Leeds in a game where they played with 10 men for nearly an entire half.

These two clubs have been card merchants this season. They have received at least one card in all 16 matches combined. I don’t see that changing during the 90 minutes on Monday night.

Across the four home and away matches each side has played respectively, Forest have received an average of 3.50 cards per 90 whilst Villa have been cautioned 2.25 times on average. This makes for good reading and I am more than happy to add this selection to my bet builder.

A win for either side here will be massive. It could kickstart a push up the table. Another defeat for Forest will certainly put an added dent in the confidence of the players but they’ll know that this is a game they’re more than capable of winning. The same could be said for the Villa camp which sets this up to be an interesting affair.
