Premier League Best Bets: April 15th-17th

We’ve got Premier League best bets for four fixtures this weekend with just eight matchdays left of the season. Things are heating up at both ends of the table with a title race that will go down to the wire and a relegation scrap involving half the division.

We’ll cover matches at both ends of the division in this preview in the quest for value.

In this article:

Aston Villa vs Newcastle Preview

Saturday, April 15th, 12:30 (UK)

The Premier League’s form side Aston Villa host Newcastle amid an unlikely push for European football. Unai Emery’s side have won six of their last seven league matches, a run that has taken them just six points behind Spurs in 5th with a fixture to come against the North London side.

Newcastle have recaptured their early season form with a run of five straight victories. The 2-1 win over Brentford last weekend was crucial for this side that is scoring goals with a greater frequency. They’ve bagged at least two in their last five after failing to score in any of their eight league games before then.

It’s a fixture that Villa tend to win. They’ve won each of their last three Premier League matches against Newcastle at Villa Park. Each of those matches finished 2-0 to the hosts with Newcastle not securing a win here since 2013.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle Best Bet

But a lot has changed on Tyneside. This is a different Newcastle side in top form. Only City and Arsenal have earned more points on the road than the Magpies have this season. They look great value to secure the win considering Villa’s recent form has been a massive overperformance based on the rest of their season. Emery’s men have taken 2.38 points per game from their last eight games compared to 1.57 for the rest of the season. That +52% relative form is the biggest positive difference in the division. That will change soon which is why I think it’s a good time to start opposing Villa.

  • Selection: Newcastle to Win (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.15 (10Bet)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Chelsea vs Brighton Preview

Saturday, April 15th, 15:00 (UK)

Chelsea will hope that the return to Frank Lampard will steady a drifting ship and get the Blues’ supporters back on side before things turn mutinous. So far, there is nothing to suggest that will change. The Blues have lost both matches since Lampard returned to the dugout. The 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in midweek might extinguish some of the hope that the Blues might salvage a dour season with a strong continental run. Before Los Blancos head to the Bridge for the second leg, Chelsea must navigate a tricky match against Brighton.

This has been a season to remember for the Seagulls. They’re 7th in the table and pushing hard for a European spot. Win both their games in hand and the Seagulls will sit just a point behind Spurs. That’s despite their rather unfortunate defeat in North London last weekend.

Chelsea vs Brighton Best Bet

Roberto De Zerbi will be eager to avoid defeat in two consecutive trips to the capital. They’re seven points ahead of their opponents Chelsea with two games in the pocket. They’ve only lost twice in the league this calendar year and have scored an average of 2.25 goals in their last eight Premier League away games. Compare that to a Chelsea side that hasn’t hit the back of the net for four on the trot in all competitions and the away side look great value here.

2.70 for the away win is an excellent price. I’m being a little more conservative and backing them with a draw no bet at 1.95. If this match finishes level, the stakes are returned.

  • Selection: Brighton Draw no Bet (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.95 (10Bet)
  • Stakes: 8/10

West Ham vs Arsenal Preview

Sunday, April 16th, 14:00 (UK)

League leaders Arsenal head across the capital to take on West Ham in another must-win fixture. The Gunners dropped points at Anfield last weekend, ending a run of seven straight wins in the league. They’ll have to return to winning ways here if they want to hold off a Man City side that is hitting form at the right time.

Wins over Southampton and Fulham in recent weeks have abated the pressure on David Moyes. The Hammers are three points clear of the drop zone but with games to come against Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Leeds and Leicester, things could change.

The Hammers will take confidence from their home form. They’ve taken almost three times as many points from their home matches as they have from their league games on the road this season.

West Ham vs Arsenal Best Bet

But Arsenal are the side to beat on the road. The Gunners are taking 2.33 points per game in Premier League away matches. No side has won more, scored more or conceded fewer away goals than Arteta’s side this season.

I feel that David Moyes is targeting certain matches right now. Since the middle of January, the Hammers have won every match against the sides currently below them in the table and failed to win any against the sides currently above them. The Gunners are a little short in the 1X2 so I’m taking them minus a goal on the Asian handicap market. I’d usually avoid that but eight of 11 away matches Arsenal have won in the league this season have been by a margin of two or more goals. I expect another here, especially with West Ham travelling away in the Europa Conference League in midweek.

  • Selection: Arsenal -1 Asian Handicap (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.99 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Leeds vs Liverpool Preview

Monday, April 17th, 20:00 (UK)

Monday night’s action sees Leeds host this inconsistent Liverpool side. It’s unclear which Reds team will show up but both are usually entertaining. They’ll need to win the vast majority of their final nine matches to stand any chance of European qualification. A run of four without a win puts that in real doubt.

For Leeds, it’s all about survival. Javi Gracia’s arrival has seen a marked improvement in Leeds’ performances until Crystal Palace came to town last week. The 5-1 defeat to their relegation rivals may take some time to recover from.

Leeds vs Liverpool Best Bet

Leeds vs Liverpool is a classic Premier League fixture and that hasn’t changed since the Lilywhites returned to the top flight. The last five league meetings between the clubs have seen an average of 4.0 goals per game. Leeds won the return leg at Anfield back in October and are aiming to complete only their second Premier League double over the Reds.

It’s a difficult match to call so I’m staying clear of the Asian handicap and 1X2 markets. Instead, my attention is on the goal line. This fixture screams goals, especially with the way both sides are defending of late. The bookies have the line at 3.0 whereas our resident robotic tipster BETSiE has the goal line at 3.77. Over 3.0 at 1.96 screams value.

  • Selection: Over 3.0 Total Match Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.96 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Best odds available as at 12:30 on 13th April 2023. Odds may now differ.
