Premier League Best Bets: August 27th-28th

We’re back with more Premier League best bets this weekend. The new season is well underway and the table is starting to take shape. There is a full set of fixtures this weekend and the first midweek gameweek of the new season to look forward to a few days later. We’ll have best bets for that but first, on with this weekend.

In this article:

Brentford vs Everton Preview

Saturday, August 27th, 15:00 (UK)

Brentford host Everton aiming to continue their strong start to the new season. The Bees sit comfortably in midtable with a win, a draw and a loss from their first three. They’ll aim to get over that last-minute disappointment against Fulham last week. It’s been another season of pain for Everton so far. The Toffees have just one point to their name from three matches.

It looks likely to be another difficult season for Everton unless things change. They’re making moves in the transfer market. Striker Neal Maupay looks set to join the club from Brighton and could be registered in time to face his former club here. The Bees moved on from Maupay long ago. Forward Ivan Toney has started the season in fine form with two goals and two assists in his first three.

Neutrals will hope that this match continues the story of these fixtures last season. Brentford and Everton faced off three times last campaign – once in the FA Cup – and shared a total of 11 goals.

Brentford vs Everton Best Bet

I’m counting on goals here. The goal line is set at 2.5 which seems far too low. These teams have shared 11 goals in their last three meetings. It’s a winnable match for both clubs which I think will open things up.

The data points to this bet coming in. Brentford have had at least four goals in each of their Premier League matches so far. Both teams have scored in two of those three.

Everton have had under 2.5 in two of their three games which is perhaps why the line is low. The data tells a different story. Six goals have been scored in those three matches but the total xG for the three is 8.86. Some more clinical finishing will make this better a winner on Saturday.

  • Selection: Over 2.5 Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.10 (SBK)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Chelsea vs Leicester Preview

Saturday, August 27th, 15:00 (UK)

This isn’t usually a match between two teams in the bottom half but here we are. Chelsea host Leicester with both sides hoping to kickstart their seasons. The hosts started the season fairly well but things came crashing down against Leeds United last week.

Chelsea just can’t seem to keep the goals out. There has been a marked turnaround in their defensive record of late. Chelsea conceded 17 times in the first 30 Premier League matches under Thomas Tuchel. They’ve conceded 34 times in the 30 league games under the German since then.

Things are even worse at Leicester City. The pressure is mounting on Brendan Rodgers on and off the pitch. Defender Wesley Fofana is the subject of transfer interest from their opponents, Chelsea here. He won’t be involved for a club that is yet to sign an outfield player this transfer window.

Chelsea vs Leicester Best Bet

I’m taking the goals angle again here. Both teams have scored in six of Chelsea’s last seven home Premier League matches. Both teams have found the net in eight of Leicester’s last nine in the league.

I’d be backing that anyway but I feel even more confident about this bet considering the team news. As discussed, Fofana won’t play for Leicester City in the centre of their backline. That’s a blow for the visitors but the hosts will also be without a key man in the centre of defence. New signing Kalidou Koulibaly will miss the match after his red card against Leeds last week.

Adding over 2.5 goals to the selection here will boost those odds well over 2.00.

  • Selection: Over 2.5 Goals and Yes on BTTS (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.25 (10Bet)
  • Stakes: 7/10

Manchester City vs Crystal Palace Preview

Saturday, August 27th, 15:00 (UK)

Manchester City host Crystal Palace as they aim to get over that disappointing draw with Newcastle last weekend. Pep Guardiola’s men are aiming to become only the fifth club to win three consecutive titles in the English top-flight.

They won’t be worried despite dropping points against Newcastle last weekend. City have never won their opening three matches in a Premier League season under Pep Guardiola. It’s a long season and City have enough to keep going each week.

This will be another big test for them. Crystal Palace have started the season well. The Eagles lost to Arsenal on the opening day but have since drawn away at Liverpool and beaten Aston Villa. They’ll feel quietly confident here after taking four points from Guardiola’s City in the Premier League last season. They took 14 points from matches against the big six last campaign.

Manchester City vs Crystal Palace Best Bet

So it was a little surprising to see the Asian handicap line at Manchester City -2 here. It feels a little generous considering City have only won one of the last nine meetings between the two clubs by more than two goals.

I’ll be backing the visitors +2 here and hoping they can push Manchester City all the way. Even if they lose by exactly two goals, the stakes are returned.

  • Selection: Crystal Palace +2 AH (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.05 (Unibet)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham Preview

Sunday, August 28th, 16:30 (UK)

Nottingham Forest host Tottenham on Sunday afternoon for the first meeting between these clubs since 2014. Spurs have won three of their last four matches against Nottingham Forest but before that, they struggled against the Reds. Forest have actually won six of their last nine league matches against Spurs before getting relegated in 1999.

A lot has changed since then. Forest are back in the big time after a 20-year absence and will hope to pick up where they left off at home. Forest’s home form got them promoted last season. They were so strong defensively that they have only conceded seven in their last 16 home league games – keeping 10 clean sheets in the process.

They face a Tottenham side in good form. It’s seven points out of nine for Spurs so far but it may feel like more. Their only dropped points came against Chelsea when they hit back from a goal behind twice to secure a point.

Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham Best Bet

I’m going over on goals again here. It looks set to be a high-scoring match despite Forest’s defensive record at home under Steve Cooper. That hasn’t been the case this campaign. Forest’s xGA is 5.9 this season, the highest in the Premier League. Only three teams have outscored Tottenham this campaign which makes me think there’ll be a few goals in this one. The line is set at 2.75 which is a little low.

  • Selection: Over 2.75 Goals (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.95 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 6/10
