Everton vs Brentford Preview

We kick things off with a huge match at the bottom. Everton come into this weekend stuck in the bottom three. Despite winning two of his first three matches in charge, Sean Dyche’s Toffees revolution has stalled. A point against Forest is their only one from three.
They face an in-form Brentford side. The Bees have gone from strength to strength in their second season in the Premier League. They’re unbeaten in 12 in the league. No top-flight side is on a longer unbeaten streak than them right now. A 3-2 win over Fulham last week has them four points off 5th.
It was 1-1 when these sides met in London back in August. While the Bees did win this exact fixture 3-2 last campaign. That came against a Toffees side that was reduced to nine men by the end of it.
Everton vs Brentford Best Bet
I’m going against form here. Sean Dyche really picks the matches he attacks and this should be one of them. The fact that Dyche won three of his four previous league games against Brentford certainly helps. The Toffees need to start picking up points and a win here could send them as high as 15th. The fixture last season was a bit of an outlier and the reverse match in August was evenly fought.
All good form ends eventually and Brentford’s will halt soon. They are far outperforming their season record right now. They’ve earned an average of 2.25 points per game in their last eight matches compared to their season average of 1.58. That overperformance is unsustainable and I get the feeling that the Bees will return to the median after this run.

Crystal Palace vs Man City Preview

The champions need to secure the win to continue their pursuit of the league leaders. Manchester City face off against Crystal Palace for a fixture they have struggled in down the years. Pep himself has lost twice and drawn three times against Palace since taking charge at the Etihad. Guardiola has taken an average of 2.14 points per match from the fixtures with Palace. That’s the lowest of any non-big 6 English club that he’s faced more than five times.
But things aren’t going too well for Crystal Palace on paper. A run of zero wins in 2023 has sent them down to 12th, seven points away from the top half. Still, each of their nine fixtures in that run has been against one of the 11 sides above them in the table. They’ve taken points from Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle and Brighton in that time.
Crystal Palace vs Man City Best Bet
I’m not expecting a home win here – despite Palace’s habit of getting results against City. The Asian handicap line is set at City -1.5 which looks about fair. Instead, I’m looking at BTTS.
Both teams have scored in the majority of Palace’s home games and in the majority of City’s matches on the road. Both teams have found the net in four of City’s last five away games in all competitions. They’ve only kept one clean sheet in their last eight on the road in all comps. With a goal line at around 2.75, that could be the value play. This is an odds-against play so I’m going low stakes.

Fulham vs Arsenal Preview

The league leaders Arsenal will hope they don’t suffer a Europa League hangover as the Thursday/Sunday schedule resumes for Mikel Arteta’s side. It’s an away game in Lisbon in midweek ahead of this London Derby early on Sunday afternoon.
Fulham will be up for it after a disappointing trip to the Emirates back in August. The Cottagers took a surprise lead in the 56th minute of the reverse fixture. A late winner from Gabriel completed Arsenal’s comeback, something they’ve made a habit of this season. The Gunners have scored three 90th-minute winning goals in the Premier League this campaign, a joint record.
They’ll hope that this one is a little less dramatic. The Gunners have won 22 of their 31 Premier League matches against the Cottagers. That 71% win rate is their highest in the Premier League era against any side they’ve faced at least 20 times.
Fulham vs Arsenal Best Bet
It’s a tough one to call so I’m looking at goals here. This bet landed in 12 of Fulham’s 15 Premier League matches before the World Cup. It’s landed in just three of the 11 games since then. Marco Silva’s side have become a little more defensive and looked to frustrate teams since Christmas. There have been signs in recent weeks that this is starting to change. The five total goals in their game with Brentford on Monday are proof of that.
We can also expect a tired Arsenal side after their midweek excursions. The Gunners have struggled to keep clean sheets lately regardless. They’ve managed just two in their last eight. Fulham will know this and will fancy their chances after watching both Aston Villa and Bournemouth put two past the Gunners in recent weeks.
