Wolves vs Burnley: Wolves Braced for a Fight
England, Premier League, Tuesday, December 5th, 19:30 (UK)
Wolves have lost their last two Premier League matches, but they remain comfortably above the relegation zone. They return to Molineux for the first time since they snatched two late goals to sink Tottenham, and they will fancy their chances.
Burnley secured a morale-boosting win over Sheffield United in their last match. Vincent Kompnay’s side put five past their fellow strugglers, and they will be hoping that the result kickstarts their season. They remain in the drop zone, but a win could see them climb from that precarious position this weekend.
Gary O’Neil has done a great job of motivating his side this season, and their matches rank highly in terms of tackles. The 38.62 average tackles per Wolves game is the 4th highest in the Premier League. Their last two home matches have seen 42 and 44 tackles.
Burnley matches haven’t been as tackle-friendly, but this should be a combative affair. They will need to build some momentum to escape the relegation fight and cannot afford to be passive here. There were 48 tackles the last time these sides squared off.
Luton vs Arsenal: Luton Set to be Gunned Down
England, Premier League, Tuesday, December 5th, 20:15 (UK)
Brentford beat Luton at the weekend and now the Hatters face another difficult test on Tuesday night when the Gunners rock up to Kenilworth Road. Rob Edwards’ side are just two points above the relegation zone coming into this round of fixtures and Everton’s form will be a real concern.
Arsenal got the job done against Wolves in their last match, and this clash is a great opportunity for them to steal a march on their title rivals. Arteta’s men have won their last five competitive matches, conceding just two goals in the process.
Rob Edwards’ side have already hosted Liverpool this season, one of Arsenal’s title rivals, and they had 16 goal kicks in that one. Luton have had at least 10 goal kicks in their two matches at home to sides who are currently in the top half of the Premier League.
The Gunners’ last five matches have seen their opponents average 9.6 goal kicks per game. Their last two league away matches saw Brentford have 12 and Newcastle have 10 goal kicks.
Sheffield United vs Liverpool: The Blades Are Facing a Sharper Opponent
England, Premier League, Wednesday, December 6th, 19:30 (UK)
Things went from bad to worse for Sheffield United at the weekend when they were hammered 5-0 by one of their relegation rivals. The Blades have struggled to get going this season, and they are as short as 1.06 to be relegated with some bookmakers. They face a mammoth task when they welcome Liverpool to Bramall Lane on Wednesday night.
Liverpool snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a late double-salvo against Fulham on Sunday. Klopp’s side were below their usual standards, but their quality saw them through, and they were able to pile on the pressure when it mattered.
Sheffield United are conceding 19 shots per game in the Premier League, which is more than any other side and well above the average of 13.26. The Blades conceded 23 shots in their most recent home match against Bournemouth. They’ve conceded 30 and 22 shots in their two home matches against sides in the current top six.
Klopp’s side have taken on three sides who are currently in the league’s bottom five. They have had 26, 26 and 24 shots against Bournemouth, Everton and Luton, respectively.
Aston Villa vs Manchester City: Tactical Nous Under the Spotlight
England, Premier League, Wednesday, December 6th, 20:15 (UK)
Aston Villa missed the opportunity to go four points clear of Tottenham on Sunday when they were held to a 2-2 draw away to Bournemouth. However, Unai Emery’s side have a 100% record at Villa Park this season and will relish the opportunity to showcase what they can do against the champions.
Manchester City also had to settle for a point in their last match. They created plenty of opportunities against Spurs, but they looked vulnerable to the counter, and it proved costly. Pep Guardiola’s side are now three points off top and need to win this to keep the pressure on Arsenal ahead of this busy period.
Aston Villa’s six home matches in the Premier League this season have seen an average of 11.6 goal kicks per game: six for Villa and 5.5 for the opposition. There have been 13 or fewer goal kicks in four of their last five matches at Villa Park in the league.
Manchester City’s matches are averaging 12.15 goal kicks per game this season. That’s the fewest in the Premier League and only slightly less than Villa matches’ 12.54. Unai Emery has only faced Pep once as the villain’s boss, and there were 10 goal kicks in that match.
Manchester United vs Chelsea: United’s Lack of Structure Comes to the Fore
England, Premier League, Wednesday, December 6th, 20:15 (UK)
Manchester United continued to falter at the weekend. They have been carved to pieces in recent weeks and have been fortunate to pick up the points they have. Erik Ten Hag appears to be a few emphatic defeats away from getting his marching orders, and Chelsea are capable of doing that.
Mauricio Pochettino will have been delighted with the character his team showed to hold on to a 3-2 win against Brighton despite being reduced to 10 men. The Blues are progressing slowly under the former Tottenham boss, but they can climb into the top half with a win at Old Trafford.
United’s home matches in the Premier League this season are averaging 15.86 goal kicks per game. Their defence lacks protection from the midfield, and their opponents are having plenty of shots as a result. The Red Devils have conceded 62 shots in their last three matches in all competitions, and this goal kicks bet has won in all of those encounters.
Chelsea’s league matches this season are averaging 14.15 goal kicks per game. There were 15 and 19 in the head-to-heads between these sides last season.
Tottenham vs West Ham: Spurs Capable of a Hammering
England, Premier League, Thursday, December 7th, 20:15 (UK)
Tottenham stopped their losing run by securing a point at the Etihad. They have had to contend with a bumper injury list, and a run of three defeats saw them slump from 1st place into 5th. They host West Ham this weekend, and only a return to winning ways will do after losing their last two home matches.
West Ham are unbeaten in their last five competitive matches, but the home draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday was disappointing. Qualifying for Europe looks like a tall order for the Hammers this season, but David Moyes will be well up for the challenge.
Ange Postecolgou’s side have shown plenty of attacking impetus regardless of the starting eleven, and this one will be no different. Tottenham are averaging 18.33 shots per home Premier League game so far. That average is brought down significantly by the eight shots they managed against Chelsea. Spurs were reduced to nine men in that game.
West Ham are conceding the 4th most shots in the decision thus far. Their opponents in their away matches are averaging 17 shots per game.
