It’s take two for the tournament’s host nation, and with that, expect information and insight to follow along with Qatar vs Senegal bet builder tips. We’ve got you covered here at bettingexpert, as we so often do.
In this article:
World Cup Group A, Friday, November 25th, 13:00 (UK)
For a tournament so long in the offing, the opening game undoubtedly fell short of what was planned by the host nation. Intense training camps, halting domestic responsibilities early on, and the plethora of friendlies didn’t quite cut it on the most prominent international stage of them all.
Ecuador remained in the driving seat for the majority of the game with Qatar. It was a different story for Senegal against the Group A favourites, the Netherlands. In fact, the Senegalese gave them a good game, with the scoreline suggesting a match that was worlds apart from what we saw with our eyes. Good job for us data nerds; expected goals is on hand.
For Senegal’s opener, 0.89xG vs 0.67xG is what it reads. And that’s not in favour of the Europeans. Fifteen shots to the Netherlands’ ten also raises eyebrows regarding the 0-2 scoreline, though Senegal just weren’t clinical enough when they needed to be.
In Qatari colours, 90 minutes without a shot on target sums up their initial steps into the tournament. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough quality on show to keep pace with Ecuador, with a flailing goalkeeper in goal not exactly breading confidence into his defensive line.
During Qatar versus Senegal, Sky Bet were the best priced for the Africans to beat the hosts on matchday two. However, half an hour into the opening match, those prices soon shortened. Now, Senegal can be backed around 1.60 to be too strong for their Group A counterparts. From what I saw in the opener, that seems about right.
Yet, to bolster this Senegal-inspired bet builder, let’s start with a straight win. In addition, just like Ecuador showed on Sunday, there are goals in this Qatari team – only at the wrong end.
Including over 1.5 goals gets us to 2.15, which is a price well worth taking if you were unable to capitalise on the bookmaker’s generous prices ahead of the tournament for this fixture. Senegal will need to find their clinical cutting edge. That’s easier said than done for the Lions of Teranga, especially without Sadio Mané.
There should be enough in Ismaila Sarr and Boulaye Dia to engineer high-quality chances against Qatar. These players have done it on lofty domestic stages repeatedly, with former PSG and established Premier League midfielder Idrissa Gueye offering his services just behind. Suppose the weight of the national shirt doesn’t weigh them down in the upcoming match. In that case, I’d expect one of the three mentioned above to find the net or provide that individual brilliance needed to unlock opposing defences.
I’ll probably stop there for the bet builder, as uninspiring as that may be. Nevertheless, perhaps a passing line may take your fancy as an alternative bet for those of you equipped with a taste for the higher odds.
Keeping the above in the bet slip, Kalidou Koulibaly passes may provide a significant bet booster. The 50 attempted passes against the Netherlands should be added to in match day two as Senegal approaches the game looking to monopolise possession. Do that successfully, and Koulibaly may threaten 70+ passes and beyond. The recommended alternative bet builder’s odds are as follows in brackets as Koulibaly’s passing lines increase: 61.5+ (2.50), 66.5+ (3.10), 71.5+ (4.00), 76.5+ (6.00), 81.5+ (9.50) and 86.5+ (17.00).
