Spain, La Liga, Sunday, February 18th, 20:00 (UK)
Both Betis and Alaves have collected 10 points from their last five matches, with only the usual suspects ahead of them on the form table.
Fresh off the back of a 2-0 win away to Cadiz, Betis has lost just one match in their last five as they look to secure a European spot next season. However, at home, of late, the earlier clean sheets we became accustomed to in the campaign have disappeared.
Betis has managed to keep just one clean sheet, which came against 19th-place Granada. Getafe, Barcelona, Girona, Rangers and Real Madrid have all found the back of the net in recent weeks.
Although Alaves aren’t at the same level as a few of those mentioned, they’ve scored eight goals in their last five away games, including a recent 3-0 victory over Almeria.
Forward Samu Omorodion is only 19 but he’s scored in his last three matches and is Alaves’ top goalscorer (nine) and he’ll be a real threat once more on Sunday evening.
Betis have threats of their own in Willian Jose and Isco, who have scored 13 goals between them, with the former opening the scoring vs Cadiz in their most recent win.
These two teams drew 1-1 earlier in the season, and a repeat scoreline looks a real possibility with both clubs in good form at present.
Alaves has been slightly underrated in the market, but if they approach this match as they have on their travels of late, Betis’ defence may come undone once again.
Real Betis vs Alaves Prediction odds via bet365 as at 13:00, February 14th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Isco is out for the hosts. It’s a big blow, and he’s not the only absentee. Marc Bartra, Ayoze Perez, Guido Rodriguez and Abner miss out on the sidelines. Bakambu returns from AFCON for his new club this week and should provide an option for saturday’s starting lineup, although it is unlikely he will be thrown straight in from the start.
As always with European competition during the week, keep a keen eye on any injuries as Real Betis faces Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.
Aleksandr Sedlar will miss out for Alaves once again through injury, while Rafa Marin (14th minute) and Javi Lopez (68th) both left the field carrying a knock against Villarreal. Both men will remain as doubts as you’d expect for the upcoming clash at the weekend.
Real Betis possible starting lineup:
Silva; Bellerin, Pezzella, Riad, Miranda; Johnny, Altimira; Diao, Fekir, Rodri; Willian Jose
Alaves possible starting lineup:
Sivera; Gorosabel, Marin, Duarte, Lopez; Blanco, Guevara; Sola, Guridi, Rioja; Omorodion
