With European and relegation spots yet to be decided in La Liga, Nathan Joyes returns to provide his Real Betis vs Celta Vigo prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
After four consecutive defeats for Betis, their chances of securing Europa League football next campaign are shortening, while Celta Vigo are just about keeping their heads above water.
Spain, La Liga, Friday, April 12th, 20:00 (UK)
It has been a tough period for Real Betis, whose recent defeats may have cost them a European spot for next season.
Four consecutive losses which has seen them concede 10 goals has left them seven points behind Real Sociedad in 7th spot. Betis hasn’t won since February, when they saw off Athletic Bilbao 3-1, although Nico Williams’ first half red card made life slightly easier for them.
They almost stopped the rot away to Girona, but Cristhian Stuani’s last-minute winner only piled on the misery.
They’ll have to dust themselves down and go again versus Celta Vigo, who are currently fighting for their lives, but recent good form has put them just above the relegation zone.
Key wins over Almeria and Sevilla has given them three points breathing space above Cadiz, too, and their tails will be up as they look to remain in La Liga.
Despite Betis’ recent losses, they have scored five goals in their last five, while Celta Vigo have impressively notched up nine goals in their previous five games on the road. They are definitely not one to shy away from tough environments.
The reverse fixture saw Celta Vigo come out on top 2-1 and the previous match before was a dramatic 4-3 and goals are once again very much expected.
With Betis fumbling to the finish and Celta Vigo picking up form, there’s a lot to like about the visitors winning either half.
Taking out their recent trip to the Bernabeu, Celta Vigo has won three of their last five matches, scoring three against Osasuna and Valencia. In fact, away from their Real Madrid game, Celta Vigo has won at least one half in their last five games on the road.
With Betis’ defence conceding left, right and centre, forward Jorgen Strand Larsen has scored ten La Liga goals this campaign, including three in his last five away games and the Norwegian striker will once again be their main threat.
Although Betis’ recent match vs Girona saw a vast amount of improvement, and they appear nearer to a positive result, the last-gasp defeat may have knocked the wind out of their sails – and Celta Vigo will look to strike.
Away from backing Celta Vigo to snatch a victory in either half, their current line of +0.25 on the Asian Handicap also appeals for the reasons listed above.
In the reverse fixture, Celta Vigo had to rely on a last gasp winner thanks to Williot Swedberg after Betis had taken the lead. However, they dominated the match finishing with an xG of 2.56, 19 shots and eight corners.
Arriving in high spirits, the visitors have only lost three of their last ten away matches, while Betis has only won two of their last ten matches at Estadio Benito Villamarin, which came against ten-man Bilbao and 19th-placed Granada.
Betis hasn’t beaten Celta Vigo in their last five head-to-heads, stretching back to 2021. If the match ends in a draw, you’ll secure a half win, but hopefully the visitors can outscore their opponents and land us a good priced winner.

Celta Vigo’s Luca de la Torre is set to miss out on the trip to Betis, having missed the last two matches due to a sustained injury. Williot Swedburg, who scored the winner in the reverse fixture, also remains sidelined with an ankle problem.
The hosts welcome back German Pezzella after his suspension for picking up five yellow cards, while Hector Bellerin is closer to returning to the starting XI after picking up a muscle injury away to Atletico Madrid.
