Saturday Playoffs Double Tips: May 20th

The EFL playoff final lineups will be completed on Saturday with League Two taking centre stage and we’ve got Playoffs double tips for this Saturday. Both first leg ties ended in 1-0 home wins meaning it is all to play for.

With all four teams still dreaming of a trip to Wembley, supporters know they are set for a day travelling the rollercoaster of emotions.

Having put both of Saturday’s games under the microscope I have selected a best bet in each. Combining them to form a bettingexpert Playoff Double.

Stockport vs Salford Preview

England, League Two, Saturday, May 20th, 12:30 (UK)

Stockport will be thankful for a second chance and only having a one-goal deficit to retrieve as they take to the field at a sold out Edgeley Park on Saturday lunchtime.

The Hatters who still had hopes of automatic promotion going into the final day of the season finished 4th over the regular season. With only three sides scoring more league goals than their 65 across the campaign they would have been disappointed to have managed just one shot on target in the first leg.

Although Dave Challinor did see his side hit the crossbar moments before Matt Smith’s decisive 17th-minute strike. County’s boss took the narrow defeat on the chin and stressed it was important to still be “very much in the tie” going into the home leg.

Salford will be pleased to have secured an advantage from the tie at the Peninsula Stadium, beating a team who were undefeated in 13 previous games. However, they will possibly think their cushion should be a larger one having forced Ben Hinchliffe into a couple of fine saves.

The Ammies would certainly sign for a repeat of the 1-1 final scoreline when these two sides met here at the end of March. On that occasion, Stockport took the lead through Connor Evans after just six minutes. The equaliser was a thing of beauty with Callum Hendry crashing in an unstoppable dipping volley from outside the area.

Stockport vs Salford Best Bet

Matt Smith was a constant menace for Salford in the first leg. The former Leeds, Fulham and QPR target man won 15 aerial duels last weekend. Three times the number of any Stockport player. The crucial one being the winning goal of course. However, my focus is on his teammate Callum Hendry who can profit from Smith’s dominance in the air.

The 25-year-old Scottish forward is one player who may not see playing away as a disadvantage. He is on an incredible run of form scoring eight goals in his last eight appearances on the road. Hitting the back of the net in seven of those eight games including all of the last six.

Strikes in that run not only against the hosts here as outlined above but also against fellow playoff participants Carlisle and already promoted Stevenage. Illustrating he can do it against the best in the league.

He should get chances here too. Not only due to the link up with Smith but also due to the game state.

  • Selection: Callum Hendry 1+ Shots On Target (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83 (Sky Bet)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Carlisle vs Bradford Preview

England, League Two, Saturday, May 20th, 15:00 (UK)

Locked together on 76 points with identical won, drawn and lost records, all the stats from the regular season pointed towards a very tight contest between these two clubs. Even so much as replicating each other’s results over the final four games. So it came to pass.

Bradford will take a narrow 1-0 advantage to Brunton Park courtesy of Jamie Walker’s early strike. A result which sent the majority of a fourth-tier play-off semi-final record 20,575 fans home happy.

It seemed The Bantams switched things up from their more possession-based style to be a little more direct. A change which may have caught Carlisle a little off guard and certainly was the case for the only goal of the game.

The Cumbrians grew into the tie and should have equalised through Ryan Edmondson. With the substitute heading over the bar and with no further action of note we are left with a perfectly balanced semi final at the halfway point.

After the meeting here on Boxing Day in the regular campaign Mark Hughes described his side’s performance as the poorest of the season. But the 1-0 defeat that day extended their winless run at Carlisle to 37 years. Now they have a second chance to break the hoodoo and what a time it would be to do it.

Carlisle vs Bradford Best Bet

Paul Simpson will look for his side to pick up the momentum they created in that second half performance at Valley Parade from the kick off here. A sold-out Brunton Park crowd will be roaring them on with a supporter-led ‘GoFundMe’ campaign aimed to arm fans with all things blue.

With an electric atmosphere and with the home side trailing by a goal we will see a very front-foot approach. Jack Armer will be tasked with bombing up the left flank from his wingback position and it was his excellent cross which was headed over by Edmondson.

The 22-year-old from Scotland has been an ever-present this season and had a superb campaign. He fired two shots off in the first leg and that was a fifth game in succession he has had at least one attempt at goal.

Across his total of 47 league appearances this term the former Preston North End man has had 33 shots. Having seen 4204 minutes of action that equates to a shot every 90 minutes.

  • Selection: Jack Armer over 0.5 shots (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

WHAT IS A FOOTBALL ACCA?

A football acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A football acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create football accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the football acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
