Will Inter Milan fall to defeat for the fifth time this season against one of the big boys? Does Fiorentina’s purple patch have enough in the tank to overcome the red half of Milan? And where will the goals come from in Verona? Plenty of questions, with all the answers coming across Serie A’s final weekend before the World Cup halts Italy’s top tier in its tracks.

Eight straight losses paint the setting for Verona’s upcoming match with Juventus on Thursday. It may well be more of the same for Juve’s visit, though our focus is on Sunday’s tie with Spezia. Nevertheless, it’s a run of form that has planted Verona at the foot of the table, with Serie B the likely destination if performances don’t change.
Well, Spezia at home is one Verona may feel as if there are points up for grabs. Both sides rank in the bottom four of Serie A for xG – Spezia: 13.2xG & Hellas Verona: 12.9xG – whilst both have recorded over 20.0xGA from their opening fixtures.
The underlying metrics propose two sides really struggling at either end of the pitch, making it difficult to put a finger on how this one will pan out. At 1.90 for over 2.5 goals and 1.90 for the unders, the bookmakers aren’t too sure, either.
In a season where both have floundered in front of goal, unable to lock in points, we should expect either team to set up not to get beat first and foremost.
Unfortunately for goals-backers, that stance could harvest a cagey atmosphere in Verona and one that may side with the unders selection, as 20th-placed Hellas Verona welcomes a Spezia side in 17th.

I Viola’s five wins on the bounce in Serie A and Europe, scoring two or more goals in every game, proposes a tricky challenge for AC Milan on the weekend. It’s a trip to the San Siro following eight successive matches where Fiorentina have located the back of the net.
With Vincenzo Italiano’s squad warming up to life this season, there’s no reason why they can’t find the net for the ninth consecutive 90-minute period. In their previous five matches in Italy, Fiorentina have mustered 6.93xG.
The Florence-based outfit has their shooting boots packed and ready for AC Milan, especially Christian Kouamé, whose ever-increasing presence grows by the week on this Fiorentina side. The Frenchman, Jonathan Ikoné, will likely line up on the opposite flank, supported by Giacomo Bonaventura, Luka Jovic or Arthur Cabral in central areas, the former two standing as Fiorentina’s top scorers with three goals apiece.
For AC Milan, it has been a stuttering two fixtures since the 4-0 whitewash of RB Salzburg. A late goal was needed versus Spezia for three points, and Cremonese on the road ended as a bore draw during the week. Tired legs and tired minds in Milan, perhaps, as the prospect of the World Cup somewhat overshadows the upcoming weekend.
Nevertheless, 18 goals and six wins in seven home outings is about as impressive as it gets in Serie A. Only once, in the 1-2 loss to Napoli, has I Rossoneri failed to score twice when playing at home.
That should provide reassurance that the hosts will take care of their side of the business, placing the ball in Fiorentina’s court to serve up the BTTS goods.

A midweek battering of Bologna will do Inter Milan plenty of favours as they gear up to face Bergamo’s best. Contrastingly, Atalanta’s two 2-1 defeats against an outstanding Napoli, and a much less threatening Lecce, nudges Sunday’s hosts into their next fixture.
Inter Milan haven’t had it all their way against the most prominent Serie A teams this term. Defeats to Lazio, Milan, Udinese, Roma, and Juventus, in that order, signal a squad lacking in confidence against the bigger teams in Italy.
Furthermore, of those five matches, only the 2-0 loss to Juventus on the weekend failed to land the proposed selection. Conceding two or more goals in each aforementioned fixture should provide Atalanta with a great deal of hope after a tough week results-wise.
Sure, the Napoli match was always going to be a challenge, but Lecce should have been three points in the bag. Instead, Lecce fought their way to only their second win of the season. Not good enough from Gasperini’s men, who will be actively seeking Champions League football next term.
An Atalanta eleven looking for a response and an Inter Milan outfit capable of a collapse on the road against a stern test – there should, in theory, be goals at either end. However, the BTTS price on its own at 1.53 doesn’t scream value.
Accompanied by a goal in each half in bet365’s bet builder, we may be onto a winner.
