Here at bettingexpert, Devang Prasad sat down with former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre. The pair discussed a range of Arsenal related topics as the Premier League and Arsenal’s title hopes draws to a close.

Jesus will remain at Arsenal despite Havertz displacing him

If recent reports are to be believed Gabriel Jesus could be one of the departures from Arsenal next season. The striker arrived from title rivals Manchester City two summers ago but has seen injuries, goal scoring and  the arrival of Kai Havertz has seen Jesus’ role under Mikel Arteta decrease over time. However, Silvestre rules out the chances of Jesus leaving this summer.

“This is his second full season at Arsenal. Not his best due to injuries mainly. But I have no doubt that he will feature at Arsenal next season.”

Arsenal need to show patience with Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli has also had an underwhelming season and now he has been replaced by Leandro Trossard up front. Martinelli enjoyed a fine season last year with 15 goals in all competition yet he has only managed to score eight goals this season. As with a lot of young talents, progress isn’t linear and although Martinelli has it a stumbling block, former Gunner Silvestre has faith in the Brazilian moving forward.

“It’s mainly consistency. Still a young player and he had a good spell and he got injured. Looks like he has gotten anxious in front of goal, sometimes making rash decisions and the wrong decisions.”

“He has to keep his cool, keep his head down and work and I’m sure his best time is till ahead of him.”

“It’s something that needs to be dealt with in training and outside as well. For offensive players, as soon as they’re back scoring or assisting, their confidence returns. I don’t think it’s a lack of confidence for Martinelli, it’s more about making the right choices.”

Guimaraes Arsenal links played down

Recent reports also suggest Arsenal seem to be very interested in bringing Bruno Guimaraes to the Emirates. Manchester City are also said to be interested in the 26 year old who has been vital in helping to lead the Newcastle revolution. Interestingly, Silvestre can’t envisage a pathway for Guimaraes at Arsenal due to the competition for places at The Emirates.

“Bruno Guimaraes is a starter, so I don´t think it would make sense to bring him to Arsenal with all the other midfield players they have.. Declan Rice, Partey and Jorginho play that position, but all the good players will be linked to Arsenal and the other top teams.”

“I don’t see that happening but I could be wrong.”

Albert Sambi Lokonga’s future

The form of Albert Sambi Lokonga who has had a good loan spell at Luton will potentially only add to the places for competition next season. Lokonga has made himself a fan favourite with The Hatters in his 18 appearances. The midfielder has seen two hamstring injuries derail his and Luton’s season but will be looking to continue the progress shown so far.

“Lokonga is still an Arsenal player, but those discussions will happen at the end of the season, in terms of whether his loan will be extended or if he is a part of the plan at Arsenal.”
