Although Portugal have already secured their ticket to the knockout phase, they are yet to secure top spot in Group H. That said, a draw against South Korea will complete the task at hand.

South Korea’s task on Friday is slightly more difficult. With just a single point from the first six on offer, nothing but a win will keep their Round of 16 hopes alive.

But even that may be in vain if the result in the other fixture goes against them. Son Heung-min and his teammates will be getting the first available flight out of Qatar.

If South Korea and Uruguay both win their final Group H outings, 2nd place would be decided by goal difference. Should South Korea win and Ghana earn a share of the points against their South American opponents, goal difference will be called into question.

Should Paulo Bento’s men and Ghana be stuck together on four points, goal difference or goals scored will be the only tiebreakers that see the former advance. Should it drop down to head-to-head record instead, it will be the latter who move on.

This has to be considered a must-win fixture for the pride of Seoul and even then, a gallant victory over Portugal may not be enough to finish 2nd in the group.

I am not prepared to fully hang my hat on a Portuguese win, only because South Korea will surely offer up one last hurrah. This is why I have opted for the Europeans to avoid defeat in the double chance market.

Another reason that I have plumped for the Portugal double chance is because I have a hunch that South Korea will score one and that goal will come from their talisman Son Heung-min.

There is no doubt that he’s had a disappointing tournament and will certainly have a point to prove on Friday. While a goal for the Tottenham forward should be one of no more than four in total.
