Although the FA Cup is in full focus, the upcoming weekend still offers plenty of Premier League action. Action that will unfold at St Mary’s and this means that Southampton vs Tottenham bet builder tips will not be far away.
Tips that will focus on whether the Saints can return to winning ways after their midweek reverse to Brentford. While they will also focus on whether Spurs can build on last Saturday’s success at home to Nottingham Forest.
In this article:
England, Premier League, Saturday, March 18th, 15:00 (UK)
After suffering a midweek defeat at home to Brentford, one wonders if the new manager bounce that Ruben Telles brought with him has now started to dissipate. Seven points from the last 15 on offer should not be overlooked, but it still leaves the Saints bottom.
Bottom but not cast adrift if you were attempting to look for positives. The fact that they have managed to earn that tally from their previous five league encounters should be taken as a positive.
However, this is a team that has changed its manager not once but twice and no matter who the personnel is within the technical area. There is a sense that this squad is one of the three weakest in the division.
Now that squad will have to entertain a Tottenham side that has not had the best month. Dumped out of both the Champions League and the FA Cup, it now means the trophy drought is officially 15 years in length.
At the same time, disposition in those two cup competitions does at least mean that Antonio Conte can put all his eggs in the top 4 basket. Truth be told, the Italian has no other choice but to do so.
After getting the better of Nottingham Forest last Saturday, the dark clouds have begun to break over the white half of North London. However, that win will be all for nothing if it is not followed up at St Mary’s.
Although Tottenham will feel that they are flying once again, I have a sneaking suspicion that the win over Nottingham Forest will be a false dawn. Spurs do not have the best of records at St Mary’s and they are also struggling on the road this season.
The North London outfit have only won one of their last six meetings to Hampshire – that being the 5-2 win during the Covid-era of the Premier League. Put any supporters in the ground and Spurs begin to falter.
This is why I am not confident that the visitors will come out on top on Saturday. This confidence can only see Tottenham earn a point in my eyes. A point that in truth is better for Southampton.
The away side may be halted in their tracks, but I do at least envisage Harry Kane managing to get on the scoresheet at the weekend. A goal that shares the points in what can only be a 1-1 draw because of my next pick.
A share of two goals means that there is no more than three at St Mary’s. You could have also added the 1-1 draw to the coupon for a bit more incentive, but instead, I have opted for more juice from the corner market.
Southampton are averaging 10.41 corners for and against. Tottenham are averaging 9.41. Add these two together and a total of seven corners should be easy enough to breach. Add this to the coupon and our bet builder is priced at a rather juicy 19.00.
