The Premier League returns this weekend with more exciting games on the cards. Gameweek 12 brought some standout results and we can expect more of the same this time around.
There is no ‘big game’ to look forward to this time around but some potentially tricky ties lie in wait and could yet affect both ends of the table after this weekend.

After recording just one win across the opening ten Premier League rounds, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers appeared to be teetering on the precipice of losing his job. But winning back-to-back games over Leeds and Wolves by a combined 6-0 scoreline appears to have given Rodgers more time, with the Leicester manager hailing his side as being “collectively very, very good” following their emphatic win in the Black Country last time out.
It will undoubtedly take a huge collective push to topple the irresistible Manchester City, especially after Leicester conceded nine times across the last three H2H encounters. Playing at home may provide some comfort for the Foxes though, as Rodgers has overseen three straight clean sheets at the King Power Stadium for the first time since a four-game run that ended in July 2020.

It took seven rounds for Bournemouth caretaker manager Gary O’Neil to suffer his first defeat as a professional first team boss, and that was soon followed up with a second, going down 0-2 to West Ham United. Now the honeymoon period appears to have worn off, it remains to be seen how Bournemouth react, with that defeat leaving them just four points from the Premier League relegation zone going into the weekend round.
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte would have needed some herbal tea and a long sleep after an infuriating UEFA Champions League home draw with Sporting Lisbon, after which he questioned the value and “honesty” of VAR. The feisty Italian is accustomed to the taste of success and could be feeling the pinch of his longest winless run across all competitions in his 53-game tenure as Spurs boss.
Conte has already previously complained about the unprecedented busy nature of this schedule, and after his side failed to secure their safe passage to the UCL Round of 16 in midweek, he has some tricky decisions here.

Despite failing to win the last three at home there could hardly be better opposition for Brentford to face than Wolves at present in order to arrest the slump, with the league’s worst scorers travelling after a 4-0 drubbing of their own (vs Leicester).
Unlike Villa, they are sticking with their interim manager, Steve Davis, until 2023, though a sixth defeat in seven would only hasten the search for Bruno Lage’s permanent replacement in view of their precarious position in the relegation zone.

Now five competitive away matches unbeaten since sacking Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea scored twice in each of those four victories and as they average 2.2 goals per Premier League away game , fans will expect another strong performance against Brighton.
That would please Potter, the first Englishman since 1906/07 to start his Chelsea management career with nine unbeaten games, as he seeks to extend that run at the expense of his former club.

Patrick Vieira will be looking for a response from his Crystal Palace side, after admitting they were ‘second best in every department’ as Everton ran out comfortable 3-0 winners last time out. Perhaps the Eagles will welcome Southampton with sharpened claws however, as that was just their second loss in their last seven outings, whilst having not suffered consecutive Premier League defeats since April could inspire an instant reply.
Selhurst Park is notorious as being a difficult venue for a visitor, with Palace seeing just two defeats in their last 12 home matches, albeit they’ve both arrived this season.
All three of the Eagles league triumphs this term have also come at home, bouncing back from a goal down to seal each of those victories.

Just over a year after their change of ownership, Newcastle United are in dreamland, sitting pretty inside the Premier League top four after 12 matches. It’s been 11 years since the Magpies enjoyed a better start to a top-flight season, eventually going on to finish fifth under Alan Pardew, and the Tyneside faithful are daring to dream of Europe once again.
After a turbulent start to the campaign for Aston Villa, the clouds have started to clear this week with a 4-0 demolition of Brentford followed by the news of Unai Emery’s imminent arrival as the club’s new manager. The Spaniard won’t be in place until after their trip to the North East though, leaving caretaker manager Aaron Danks in charge to attempt to oversee successive victories for the first time this season.

Fulham are fast becoming the surprise package of the Premier League after losing just four of their opening 12 league matches. As a result, they have now picked up a top-half position as well as 18 points, which is an improvement even on their last PL campaign that did not lead to relegation – a 12th place finish in 2012/13. Their most recent win, a dogged 3-2 victory away at Leeds United, had manager Marco Silva understandably praising their ‘fighting spirit’.
Coincidentally, last week’s impressive 3-0 win for Everton over Crystal Palace was the first time they had scored more than twice in a PL game since victory over the same opponent in May. It was also just their third clean sheet of the season – an area of improvement they must keep working on as only four sides had managed fewer coming into the round.

Liverpool fans just never know which version of their side they’ll get on gameday, after a majorly disappointing 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest last time out in the Premier League, was followed up by a resounding 3-0 win over Ajax in midweek European action which guaranteed the Reds a place in the UEFA Champions League knockouts.
That loss to Forest was Liverpool’s third this league campaign, already more than they had suffered all of last season (two), leaving them way off the top-four pace at the moment.
But the mood changes when Anfield gets involved, with the Reds currently riding a 29-game undefeated streak in home PL matches, accumulating a mammoth +57 goal difference in that time.

Arsenal saw their 10-game unbeaten run come to an end in disappointing fashion, after a 2-0 defeat to PSV means they must wait till their final Europa League game to clinch top spot. The Gunners have somewhat dropped the pace in their last few games and perhaps a reality check is on the cards?
After a 1-0 upset victory against Liverpool last time out, Forest will be aiming to add more to Arsenal’s woes but history is on the side of the hosts.
Arsenal haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 10 Premier League home games, though they have won the last eight in a row. In English top-flight history, only one side has ever won nine consecutive home games while conceding each time, with Aston Villa doing so in their first ever nine games in 1888-89.

Both sides will come into this fixture with good spirits, based on their recent strong form. Since their 6-3 defeat to rivals Manchester City, United are unbeaten across seven games across all competitions, including fixtures against Tottenham and Chelsea. There is a feel-good factor as well, with Cristiano Ronaldo back in the squad and among the goals against Sheriff Tiraspol in midweek.
In the same vein, West Ham’s only loss in their last eight outings across all competitions came against Liverpool and they will be eager to climb up the log with a win here. However, history is against the Hammers as head coach Daid Moyes has never won a Premier League fixture while being the opposing manager against his former side in 15 attempts.
