The Premier League returns this weekend with more exciting games on the cards. Gameweek eight brought some standout results and we can expect more of the same this time around.
After edging Tottenham in a London derby last time out, league leaders Arsenal are the pick of this round once again with a mammoth clash against Liverpool. They are expected to show their title credentials or perhaps their lack thereof.

After their early season struggles, Leicester looked a rejuvenated outfit and netted four goals themselves on Monday, drubbing near-rivals Nottingham Forest 4-0 with manager Brendan Rodgers admitting that result could prove to be “season changing.” That result relieved some of the pressure building on Rodgers, who perhaps was feeling a sense of déjà vu having been sacked by Liverpool in the opening week of October in 2015.
However, they take on an equally rejuvenated Bournemouth, with interim boss Gary O’Neil unbeaten after four games since taking over from Scott Parker. The Foxes will fancy their chances at claiming a second successive win but will have to put out a similar performance as last time.

The Graham Potter era is up and running at Chelsea after they followed up a last-ditch 2-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace with a far more emphatic 3-0 Champions League triumph over AC Milan in midweek. It wasn’t all good news. The new manager will likely be concerned about the injury to defender and goalscorer, Wesley Fofana.
That win was the perfect way to mark Potter’s Stamford Bridge debut in charge of the Blues and he’s got another chance to impress the faithful against 18th-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. They’re a side against which Chelsea have struggled recently but this time around, Blues fans will be expecting a triumph here in order to potentially leapfrog their manager’s former side, Brighton, into 4th place in the table.

Can anyone stop Manchester City at the moment? It is looking like no at the moment. The Citizens continue to run riot and followed up their 6-3 derby win over Manchester United with a 5-0 thumping of Copenhagen in midweek.
You guessed right to think that Haaland scored again. With his first touch in the game too and has now taken his Champions League goal ratio to a stunning 1.27 per match. The Norwegian was taken off in the second half of the game but City claimed he was not injured in any way and that should be worrisome news to a visiting Southampton side.
We can only see this fixture go one way and it would surely be one of the results of the season if the Saints can claim an unlikely upset. With Erling Haaland already celebrating his goals ahead of that fixture, the bookies are expecting a stroll in the park.

A 4-1 trouncing of Fulham last Saturday brought Newcastle United’s first league win since the opening day and reignited hopes of them flourishing with their new riches. They currently stand on the periphery of the top 6. News of Callum Wilson extending his contract only heightens the feel-good factor, ahead of a fixture that produced a 3-3 thriller 11 months ago.
For Brentford though, they remain eager to prove that last season’s survival was no fluke, but it’s now just one win in six league outings for Thomas Frank’s men, after a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth and they will need to be better to claim points against the Magpies.

Surprisingly, only three points separate both sides and it is even harder to believe that Brighton are in fourth place after eight games. The Seagulls have lost only once this season, at the hands of Fulham and will fancy their chances of causing an upset here.
After recently becoming the first and only club to take points home from Anfield twice in PL football since the start of 2021/22 after their 3-3 draw at Liverpool in the last round, Brighton ought to feel confident after equalling their best seven-game start to a Premier League season.
Tottenham have now gone two games without a win after a derby 3-1 loss to Arsenal last midweek and a bore 0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek. Antonio Conte insists his side need more ‘quality’ and that will be further put to the test against an in-form side.

Despite being out of action for almost an entire month, Crystal Palace flew out of the traps against Chelsea last time out before they eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat to extend their winless run to four games.
Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United are also enduring a four-game winless run of Premier League games, following their drab goalless draw with Aston Villa last time out. There are some disciplinary issues to iron out for the Lilywhites too as Marsch himself missed the last game, while he had to watch on as influential attacker Luis Sinisterra received his marching orders from the stands.
It is indeed an open game and either side can claim victory here.

West Ham will be hoping to build on their 1-0 victory over Anderlecht on Thursday, a result that saw them continue their best-ever start to a European campaign having now won five successive continental fixtures. That result also meant the Hammers have now won their last two games but they face a Fulham side also eager to return to winning ways after a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Newcastle last time out.

Arsenal continue to lead the way in the Premier League. They will come into this game with confidence after a 3-1 derby win against Tottenham last time out and a routine 3-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt in midweek.
Liverpool looked more like their usual selves in midweek against Rangers but Arsenal are a tougher test and they have proven that they are ready to take the fight to any side this season.
Regardless, Liverpool remain a side that can punish any mistakes and the result will go on to be decided by moments of individual brilliance or either side capitalizing on team errors or needless individual mistakes.

Erik ten Hag’s men showed their character on Thursday night with a comeback Europa League victory and will be eager to return to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend.
Heading into gameweek nine, Everton look to continue building on their momentum, where they are unbeaten in five games, including two successive victories in their last two games.
Elsewhere, Manchester United looks to move on from the previous week, where they suffered a 6-3 defeat to local rivals Manchester City. The bookies might have United as favourites here but in reality, it is a game that can go either way.

A 4-0 loss to Leicester City on Monday meant Forest dropped to the bottom of the table and have now recorded five consecutive losses. Manager Steve Cooper is under growing pressure to steady the ship and despite a flurry of signings over the summer, the Reds look somewhat disorganised.
Aston Villa have equally struggled themselves but are now on a three-game unbeaten run, having played out to a 0-0 stalemate with Leeds last time out. Reports claim this is the last chance saloon for Cooper and another defeat here could spell the end of his time at the club.
