Our man with his finger on the Bundesliga pulse, Jack Wright, has put together a Union Berlin vs Wolfsburg prediction, team news, standings and lineups preview for us to dissect ahead of the weekend. It’s 15th vs 11th, as Wolfsburg aims to put an end to their four consecutive score draws in the German top flight.

In this article:
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, February 10th, 14:30 (UK)
Following a season of Champions League qualification after a fourth-placed finish, nobody would have predicted the struggles Union Berlin was to suffer in the Bundesliga, especially after winning their opening two fixtures of the new campaign.
The Iron Ones lost their next nine league games, and shortly after, it was decided they would part ways with manager Urs Fischer by mutual agreement. An immediate upturn in fortunes followed the appointment of Nenad Bjelica, who won his first game in charge against Borussia Monchengladbach and has picked up ten points in total from seven fixtures.
The temptation is to go for the home win here, given the Croatian has won all three league games at Stadion An der Alten Försterei since his arrival. However, a midweek clash with relegation rivals Mainz is huge, with the outcome unknown at the time of writing.
Given the lack of goalscoring threat from either side, one is likely to be tight, as is this clash with Wolfsburg, who do not have the distraction of a midweek fixture.
Odds suggest three or fewer goals with under 2.5 best-priced at 1.83. The visitors have drawn their last four league games and are likely to settle for a similar outcome again, given they could be as few as three points clear of the hosts here come kick-off.
The final factor putting me off taking Union to win is that they have only beaten one side out of the bottom three in the current campaign, the aforementioned victory of Gladbach. Given their midweek exertions, especially if they yield a positive result, it is likely the home side could also settle for a draw.
In what looks like a tight, low-scoring relegation dogfight, the play I like most is for the points to be shared.
Union Berlin vs Wolfsburg Prediction odds via bet365 as at 11:00, February 6th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Josip Juranovic misses out at full-back and will be absent for the foreseeable future. Kevin Volland, Vertessen and Hollerbach will all be competing for places in attacking areas for Union in what is a significant Bundesliga fixture.
Nmecha and Wimmer miss out for the away team – both will likely remain in the treatment room throughout February. Gerhardt made the bench on the weekend but was a doubt due to illness – he should be in contention for a starting berth here.
Union Berlin possible starting lineup:
Schwolow; Knoche, Vogt, Doekhi; Khedira; Trimmel, Schafer, Tousart, Gosens; Volland, Hollerbach
Wolfsburg possible starting lineup:
Casteels; Mæhle, Lacroix, Jenz, Rogerio; Svanberg, Vranckx; Cerny, Majer, Paredes; Wind
