Wales vs England Bet Builder Tips: Tuesday, November 29th

I have pored over the stats from the opening two rounds of games in the 2022 World Cup to bring you my Wales vs England bet builder tips. The Ahmad bin Ali Stadium Stadium plays host as the Dragons take on the Three Lions in a game that concludes the group stage fixtures for both sides.

Wales vs England Preview

World Cup Group B, Tuesday, November 29th, 19:00 (UK)

Wales have to bounce back from the heartbreak of their last match. They need a win here to avoid elimination from their first World Cup in 64 years. It would be some bounce back. With 86 minutes on the clock against Iran, goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off and will miss this clash.

That hurt Wales but worse was to come just as it looked like Rob Page had seen his side salvage a hard-fought point against an improved Iran. A 98th-minute strike from substitute Rouzbeh Cheshmigoal finally broke the deadlock. With Ramin Rezaeian condemning the Dragons to defeat and a place at the foot of Group B.

England missed the chance to be the first team through to the knockout stages when they put in a flat performance against the USA on Friday night. In contrast to their opening performance against Iran, an unchanged team produced a much-changed display. The Three Lions survived as a Christian Pulisic strike thundered back off the crossbar.

Eyebrows would have once again been raised by Gareth Southgate’s use of his substitutes. England until nearly 20 minutes from full time to make the first change and used only three of the permitted five reserves in a deep squad. The England boss vowed that “external noise” would not impact his side and has, of course, been here before. England fans suffered through a 0-0 draw last summer either side of two group stage wins en route to the way to the European Championship final.

Wales vs England Stats & Facts

  • England drew 0-0 with the USA in their last World Cup match, taking their tally of goalless draws at the World Cup to 12, more than any other nation in World Cup history
  • Wales faced 21 shots in their 2-0 defeat against Iran, the third time in their last eight games they’ve faced 20+ shots, as many as in their previous 62 games combined. The last time they faced England at a major tournament, the Three Lions had exactly 20 shots in a 2-1 win at EURO 2016
  • Among the Wales players to complete 90 minutes in their two games against USA and Iran, Gareth Bale has had the fewest touches in both games (34 vs USA, 36 vs Iran), managing just two shots across the two matches, one of which was his penalty goal against the USA
  • After scoring an England calendar year record 16 goals in 2021, Harry Kane has only scored three times in 10 games in 2022, all from the penalty spot. Kane hasn’t scored with any of his 20 non-penalty shots in 2022 so far

Wales vs England Best Bet

Both these sides meet here out of form. Despite England’s 6-2 defeat of Iran on MD1, that was very much an exception to recent performances and results. The 0-0 stalemate with the USA on Friday was much more akin to what we have been used to seeing from Gareth Southgate’s team.

The win over Iran was the only success in their last eight games in all competitions (D4 L3). Their fewest across an eight-game span since a run between October 2001 and June 2002 when they also only won once. The manager has been dubbed a “tournament specialist” and once again, he will sign for a result that will ensure progress to the knockout stages.

For Wales, they are on a run of seven games without a victory in all competitions for the first time since May 2003 – November 2003 (D2 L5). They last endured a longer winless streak between March 2000 and September 2001 where they failed to win any one of 12 fixtures.

With both nations’ goalscoring talismans Gareth Bale and Harry Kane out of form, it makes sense to side with a low-scoring affair in a tense final game of a qualifying group, even more so in an all-British derby.

Cards look on the agenda here too. As always, the game state will play a big part in cards being picked up. So getting Wales to pick up at least two cards onside is the wise play. With three points essential Rob Page will see his side either chasing the game or protecting what would be a monumental victory.

The Welsh have seen 23 players booked and one sent off in their last 11 competitive internationals. Seeing at least two players carded in 10 of those. Slavko Vinčić is the match official and this is his second appointment of the tournament. His first being Argentina vs Saudi Arabia where the Slovenian referee flashed six yellow cards.

  • Under 3.5 total goals
  • Over 1.5 Wales cards
