The new Championship season is in full swing and we’ve got Watford vs Burnley bet builder tips this Friday night. In what would have been an all Premier League clash just a few months back, these two sides are now in the second tier and eager to return to the top. It promises to be an intriguing match and there is plenty of betting value available.
In this article:
Friday, August 12th, 20:00 (UK)
It was a drab, lifeless Watford performance on Monday night at The Hawthorns. Bar that miraculous glimpse of sheer brilliance from Ismaela Sarr, who scored from within his own half. Somehow, in the end, Sarr’s inability to convert from the penalty spot near the death saw Hornets fans leaving the Midlands feeling as hard done by as the hosts. But, in reality, West Brom ensured that it was a case of backs to the wall for Watford for long periods.
Bachmann in Watford’s goal was to thank for West Brom not running away with three points. As a result, if a similar Watford showing rears its head on Friday, one can anticipate Burnley putting the hosts to bed relatively comfortably.
In the opening two Clarets fixtures, Kompany’s men have dominated possession. It’s likely a trend that will continue in this division, and similar should transpire on their Friday night travels if Watford’s inability to carve out a foothold in the game comes to fruition once more.
Burnley’s +0.25 Asian handicap at 1.91 would be my angle into the match as a single. But, of course, Watford do possess the tools to cause the visitors plenty of problems in attacking areas. Despite the quality across the forward line in Dennis, Pedro, and Sarr, claiming half a win in the event of a draw is something I can get on board here.
Shifting focus to a bet builder approach for the Championship’s opening weekend fixture, Burnley take centre stage with the first pick. The first pick provides a steady footing at 1.57 for Burnley or Draw double chance.
Next up, Ian Maatsen takes a starring role in the bet builder. The Chelsea loanee hit three attempts vs Huddersfield and four in the 1-1 draw against Luton. Bet365’s offering of 2.37 for Maatsen to register at least two shots is worth considering.
Vincent Kompany will be thrilled with the business of bringing Maatsen to Turf Moor. The Dutchmen reportedly snubbed Feyenoord in his homeland to stay and fight for a Chelsea spot. As a result, Burnley presented as his next-best destination to aid his pursuit of a place amongst Chelsea’s packed defensive line. If the opening two fixtures are anything to go by, the Championship is in for a treat from the Clarets’ new left-back.
The debutant hit the winner in the curtain raiser in Huddersfield. The backdrop to Maatsen’s finish was somewhat lucky, with the ball breaking kindly to him in the box. However, the finish was anything but, with the ball caressed into the far right corner. More importantly, from a betting perspective, was the position that Maatsen found himself.
Maatsen was alive and waiting for something to fall to him after marauding into the final third, following the pass he sent to Brownhill’s feet. His prayers were answered roughly thirteen yards out, fancying his chances for a pop at goal. More of the same will stand us in good stead on Friday as these bets double up to create a neat little builder.
