Domestic action is well and truly back following its hiatus for the World Cup. The action is coming thick and fast and this Wednesday we have a plethora of action to delve into. So having cast my eye over the fixtures, I have picked out my three best bets. Putting them together for a bettingexpert Wednesday night acca. Games in Turkey, Italy and England made the cut.
In this article:
Turkey, Super Lig, Wednesday, January 4th, 17:00 (UK)
This season has seen some response from Galatasaray. The most successful club in Super Lig history and the only Turkish club to ever win a European trophy had a disastrous 2021/22 campaign. A lowest-ever finishing position of 13th saw 14 defeats across their 38 league fixtures. Their final points tally of 52 was a massive 29 fewer than champions Trabzonspor. Living legend Fatih “The Emperor” Terim was dismissed in January with the club in 12th.
The eight-time Turkish top-flight winner was replaced by Domenec Torrent. Pep Guardiola’s former assistant also relinquished his duties six months later. New boss Okan Buruk will welcome MKE Ankaragucu to Nef Stadium as league leaders. Last time out Ömer Erdoğan saw his side fall to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Umraniyespor. That disappointing result to the league’s bottom team leaves AG in 13th place but just one point above the relegation zone.
Gala blew off the rust following the World Cup break with a 1-0 home cup success over Keciorengucu. Back-to-back 2-1 league victories ensured a continuation of the outstanding form they took into the hiatus. A run of wins which now stretches to seven either side of the showpiece occasion in Qatar. Buruk’s side have won four of their last five home league games. All of which by the same 2-1 scoreline. Expect them to have too much for the visitors who only have two wins from their seven Super Lig road trips. Taking under five goals gives a nice boost to the price.

Italy, Serie A, Wednesday, January 4th, 13:30 (UK)
Serie A is back and the game that catches my eye sees Torino welcome rock-bottom Verona to Stadio Olimpico di Torino. Prior to the World Cup break, Il Toro were frustrated by a Nemanja Matić 94th-minute equaliser for Roma. A Karol Linetty header had given his side a lead early in the second half. Failure to hold on for a famous victory leaves Ivan Jurić’s men in 9th, six points outside the European places.
Verona had the rare experience of taking the lead last time out. Simone Verdi’s cool finish proving enough for his side to take a lead into the interval against visitors Spezia. However, a second-half M’Bala Nzola brace condemned Gialloblu to yet another defeat. A loss that was made more disappointing given Luca Gotti’s side were on a run of seven league games without a win themselves. The collapse meant a gap of eight points opened up between the league’s basement side to their opponents in the much cherished 17th place.
A 10th consecutive Serie A defeat spelt the end of Salvatore Bocchetti’s reign as Verona manager. Marco Zaffaroni being tasked with attempting to salvage what has been a wretched start to the season. No other team in Europe’s top-five leagues are on a longer losing streak. Without winning so much as a point since early September.
Torino’s last three competitive home fixtures have resulted in three wins. Scoring a total of eight goals and conceding just once. The 2-1 success over AC Milan was particularly eye-catching. Not only does the current form of both sides tip this in favour of the home side but so does the head to head stats. The Granata suffered defeat in this clash just three times in the last 28 previous clashes played in Serie A. I make Torino much stronger favourites than the 1.90 odds available.
England, Premier League, Wednesday, January 4th, 20:00 (UK)
Following consecutive defeats on either side of the World Cup break, Crystal Palace recorded an impressive win over Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve. Sitting in 11th place the Eagles can now look at breaking into a tightly packed top 10. Patrick Vieira was impressed with his side’s all-round performance. Aggressive and disciplined without the ball but showing plenty of quality when in possession. In truth the margin of victory could have been wider.
No such joy for visitors Spurs. Their 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on New Year’s Day was a fourth Premier League loss in seven games. From a position of strength inside the top four, Antonio Conte now sees his side on the outside looking in. The fiery Italian manager chose to defend his players on this occasion. Citing the performance against Villa as a good one full of desire and commitment. It is up for debate if the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful share that opinion.
Selhurst Park is never an easy place to visit. The Boxing Day loss to Fulham ended a run of three successive wins on home soil for Palace. Spurs had their 100% record under then-manager Nuno Espírito Santo ended at this venue last term in a 3-0 defeat. Conte’s men fell behind for a 10th consecutive game on Sunday. A continuation of that bad habit would spell big danger. The vociferous home crowd need no invitation to make this an even more uncomfortable outing for the North London side than it already promises to be. Being able to take the home team on a plus handicap is too good to ignore.

Acca Odds: 6.58
Odds via bet365 as at 22:30 January 1st 2023. Odds may now differ.
A football acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A football acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create Premier League accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the football acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
