Premier League Double: Wednesday, April 5th

There are two games to get stuck into on Wednesday amidst this bumper round of Premier League fixtures.

Both Manchester United and Newcastle are in action after they met on Sunday.

The Magpies’ victory saw them wrestle back control of the Champions League spots and despite their upturn in form, their trip to the London Stadium will be no cake walk.

Man United host Brentford, who will be hoping to complete the double over the hosts as they have European ambitions of their own to keep alive.

Manchester United vs Brentford Preview

England, Premier League, Wednesday, April 5th, 20:00 (UK)

In a crucial game in the race for Champions League football, Manchester United lost at St James’ Park on Sunday.

The Red Devils got battered as well.

Newcastle outshot them 22 to 6, generated an xG of 3.18 compared to Man Utd’s 0.35 and created four times as many ‘big chances’ as Erik Ten Hag’s side, who did not have any.

The victory saw the Magpies leapfrog Man Utd into 3rd place, momentum is clearly with the former who have won their last three league games on the spin, United have not won any.

Ten Hag’s side have struggled away from home all campaign, 60% of their haul of 50 points coming at Old Trafford where they have only lost once domestically, compared to six defeats on the road.

I think there was a little more to consider in this defeat though.

They face Brentford in Manchester but with key personnel unavailable for the hosts, the Bees will be fancying their chances of completing the double.

Thomas Frank’s side thumped Man Utd 4-0 in the reverse in mid-August, and his side’s campaign has not fizzled out yet.

Manchester United vs Brentford Best Bet

Manchester United have massively missed the presence of Casemiro in central midfield. Their Brazilian lynchpin will be suspended for Wednesday’s game, and it is hard to make a case for the hosts without him.

In his absence, Man Utd struggled to gain control of matches, and this is reflected by the fact that they have won more Premier League points with him in the engine room.

Brentford have only lost five times this season, once over their last 16, and they look a big price to get a result on Wednesday evening.

West Ham vs Newcastle Preview

England, Premier League, Wednesday, April 5th, 20:00 (UK)

As previously alluded to, Newcastle were great value for the victory at the weekend.

Credit has to Eddie Howe for the way he navigated his side out of a tricky period.

The Magpies were in a slump, winless in five games, losing three of those, including the League Cup final. It looked as though Newcastle’s European push was going down with a whimper.

Following some tactical tweaks, Newcastle have won their three games either side of the international break and put themselves in pole position of those chasing Champions League football.

In those three matches, Newcastle have racked up an xG of 8.51 and shipped 0.60 xGA per game. No keeper in the top flight has kept more clean sheets than Nick Pope (13), 61.5% of those have come at home though.

Newcastle head to the capital to face West Ham.

The hosts won their first league game since February last weekend, beating relegation rivals Southampton to move them one point clear of the relegation zone, with a game in hand on the six sides below them.

West Ham vs Newcastle Best Bet

Joe Willock has averaged 1.7 shots per game domestically this campaign, hitting two or more in 50% of his appearances.

There has been a significant increase in his offensive output over the last three games, scoring once, registering two assists and hitting 11 shots.

Willock was one of the players that came into the side in response to Newcastle’s poor run. Watching him operate behind a front three of Alexander Isak, Allan Saint-Maximin and Jacob Murphy, it’s fair to see he has more of an attacking licence than his fellow midfielders.

  • Selection: Joe Willock Over 1.5 Shots
  • Best Odds: 2/15 (William Hill)
  • Stakes: 5/10

WHAT IS A FOOTBALL ACCA?

A  football acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A  football acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create Premier League accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the football acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
