The latest instalment of Friday night football takes us to The Hawthorns and with both West Brom and Burnley possessing burgeoning unbeaten runs in the Championship, neither will want to see theirs bought to an end by the other.

Going into this encounter, it is fair to say that West Brom have been solid rather than spectacular during their four matches without defeat. A statement that is backed up by three of those results being drawn.

While in terms of Burnley, their momentum is perhaps accelerating a little faster and with successive draws being recorded against both Hull and Blackpool, they were then followed up with wins over Wigan and Millwall.

With the Baggies and the Clarets harbouring genuine hopes of earning automatic promotion at the end of the season, it is the latter’s prospects that look more realistic at this present moment in time.

Before this latest round of Championship fixtures gets underway, Burnley are priced at 2.62 for automatic promotion at the end of the season. By comparison, West Brom are slightly longer at 3.50.

A reflection of not only the talent on the field but also the managerial talents of Steve Bruce and although he has plenty of experience of getting teams out of the second tier, he might just be losing his touch these days.

Although defeat has been a rare occurrence for both West Brom and Burnley this season, there is a sense that the former have been operating with more of a safety-first approach. One that has swayed my decision when selecting the match outcome.

Because although West Brom are the bookmakers’ favourites before Friday at odds of 2.30, this is something I would have to disagree with and even backing Burnley at 3.30 as a standalone bet is worth extra consideration.

However, I have decided to back Burnley as the first leg of my bet builder and with my belief being placed towards the Clarets earning all three points, I also think there will be a total of under three goals.

Because with West Brom playing more not to lose than opposed to trying to win, I am not sure this is a game that leads itself to a glut of goals and that is why I have been rather conservative in this market.

While due to my pick of an away win, it also means I do not have to go for broke elsewhere and with under 13 total corners looking more than achievable on Friday, this slots very nicely into my bet builder.

Add at least one card being shown during the game and this brings things neatly to close. Which means as long as Burnley win, the rest should take care of itself and at odds of 9.00, this is not a combination to be sniffed at.
