Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, March 2nd, 17:30 (UK)
Wolfsburg remains part of a group of five clubs immediately above the relegation zone that is separated by just one point. They were also another that were holding all three points at the weekend before conceding a late equaliser at home to Eintracht Frankfurt, with former player Omar Marmoush grabbing a dramatic leveller deep into added-on time at the end of the 90.
It shouldn’t have been too much of a surprise to Wolves fans, given they have seen their team share the spoils in six of the last seven league games. They will look to go one better and grab a first win in nine against a Stuttgart side that won the reverse 3-1.
Bundesliga surprise package Serhou Guirassy plundered all three goals on that occasion, and only Harry Kane has more than the Guinea international’s 18 league goals this campaign. However, with the traders now wise to his exploits, I am looking elsewhere on the visitor’s side for some value when it comes to shots.
When available, Atakan Karazor has started every game for the Reds this season. Although primarily selected for his tough tackling, with his 62 won only bettered by one other player in the Bundesliga this term, it is his shot data that catches my eye.
The 27-year-old has had at least one attempt at goal in 12 of his last 15 games across all competitions and also had a shot in the reverse fixture at MHPArena in October. The odds of 2.00 for another effort here look like a touch of value.
Wolfsburg vs Stuttgart Prediction odds via bet365 as at 09:00, February 28th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
For the first time in the Bundesliga, VfL Wolfsburg have gone winless in the first six games of the second half of the season (D5 L1). The club from Lower Saxony have gone eight games without a win overall (D6 L2) – the longest such streak for the Wolves since November 2021 to January 2022 (9 games under Florian Kohfeldt).
VfB Stuttgart’s Sebastien Hoeneß is set to take charge of his 100th Bundesliga game, having collected 149 points in the 99 games so far. Hoeneß has won his last four Bundesliga matches against VfL Wolfsburg – only against 1. FC Köln has he had a longer winning streak (5 wins between 2020 and 2023).
Wolfsburg possible starting lineup:
Casteels, Baku, Lacroix, Jenz, Mæhle, Majer, Gerhardt, Arnold, Paredes, Behrens, Wind
Stuttgart possible starting lineup:
