Wolves vs Brentford Prediction: Cunha, Neto and Toney to feature

England, Premier League, Saturday, February 10th, 15:00 (UK)

It’s been some season for Wolves, Gary O’Niel was appointed manager a matter of days before the season got underway and it’s been nothing but a success. Offensively, Wolves have been magnificent, they’ve scored 37 times in 23 Premier League matches, that’s six more than they achieved in the entirety of the 22/23 campaign, there are still 15 games yet to play.

Brentford have a relatively tough campaign; Thomas Frank’s side are currently 15th and are just three points off the drop. Ivan Toney has returned after his lengthy absence and will be a huge boost for all involved with the club. The Bees have seen an impressive 3.23 goals per game so far this season, 16 of their 22 league encounters have witnessed three or more goals.

Wolves are a brilliant watch; they’ll create plenty of chances but will also concede a hefty amount. 16 of their 23 Premier League outings have seen at least three goals, including eight of 11 at this venue.

The visitors will certainly have their work cut out; they’ve not kept a clean sheet in 11 consecutive matches. O’Neil’s side have scored in every clash here, I expect them to score a couple of times in this meeting at the very least.

The hosts will be full of confidence after winning at Chelsea, Matheus Cunha and Pedro Neto are a real handful. Ivan Toney is excellent and has already scored two in three games since his return. Neal Maupay has bagged in each of his previous five appearances, the Frenchman is bang on form and will be looking to continue that streak.

Wolves vs Brentford Team News and Possible Lineups: Absentees won’t dampen a thing

Wolves’ Hwang Hee-Chan and Boubacar Traore both have international commitments and won’t feature in the squad for Brentford’s visit to the Midlands. The South Korean’s goal scoring exploits has been replaced by an in-form Matheus Cunha, dampening Hwang’s absence in Wolverhampton.

For Brentford, their talisman, Ivan Toney, will lead the line once again, as he did on Monday against Manchester City. Due to their sizable injury list, Thomas Frank may decide on an unchanged eleven here. All of Hickey, Mbuemo, Henry, and Schade miss out through injury. Ghoddos, Onyeka, and Wissa won’t feature due to international priorities.

Wolves possible starting lineup:
Sa; Kilman, Dawson, Toti; Semedo, Lemina, Gomes, Ait-Nouri; Sarabia, Neto; Cunha

Brentford possible starting lineup:
Flekken; Collins, Mee, Pinnock; Roerslev, Janelt, Jensen, Norgaard, Reguilon; Toney, Maupay

Match Stats: If lengthy streaks don’t scream goals then nothing will

  • Wolves have won four of their last six Premier League games (D1 L1), as many as their previous 14 beforehand (D4 L6). They have netted 16 goals across those last six matches, as many as their previous 12 league games prior to this.
  • No team is on a longer current run without a Premier League clean sheet than Brentford. They’ve conceded in each of their last 12 games in the competition, shipping at least twice in each of their last six.
  • Wolves have scored in each of their last 18 Premier League home games, since a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth in February last year. They last had a longer scoring streak at Molineux in league football between October 1999 and September 2000 (23).
  • Brentford’s Neal Maupay has scored in each of his last three Premier League appearances – he’s never scored in four in a row in the competition before. He last scored in four straight league games in September 2018 in the Championship.
