Sara Errani vs Yulia Starodubtseva (LP Open): Tuesday, November 14th
Shocking result on Monday, as Solana Sierra didn’t just lose, but was dominated by Despina Papamichail.
For Tuesday, we’ll look at another matchup from the LP Open in Chile at the WTA 125K level. This time, it’s Sara Errani vs Yulia Starodubtseva.

Sara Errani vs Yulia Starodubtseva Expert Tip
A day after losing a bet on the more natural clay courter, I’m going back to the well and backing the light-hitting Italian against a less-experienced clay courter in Yulia Starodubtseva.
Not only is Errani a far more proven entity on the surface, but almost all of Starodubtseva’s clay experience has come in the United States, where we typically see the green clay used, which plays quicker.
The win percentages for the Ukrainian also point to her preferring hard courts much more than clay. The altitude may help quicken things up, but I’m not sure it’ll help much against an elite defender like Errani.
Elevated conditions also tend to reward incredibly consistent players as the thinner air can lead to more errors for players looking to dictate more.
- Expert Tip: Errani to win at 1.64 with Unibet (also available at 1.65 with Pinnacle), using 3/10 stakes.
Odds as at 3:30 am UK Time on November 14th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Sara Errani Recent Form
She may no longer be the top-5 player she once was, but Errani has put together a respectable season that has helped her reach the top-100 in the rankings.
She’s beaten plenty of noteworthy players and has found a lot of success at the 125K level on the dirt, reaching her fair share of semifinals and finals.
That includes the tournament in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, which is played at altitude as well, so we know that elevated conditions aren’t a new concept to her, nor do they trouble her all that much.
With a style that hits at big targets and is focused on avoiding poor mistakes, you can see why she doesn’t mind the thin air, which can hurt many other players.
Her experience, superior clay court play and effective style for the conditions all lead me to believe she’s undervalued at the current price.
Yulia Starodubtseva Recent Form
Credit has to be given to Starodubtseva as well.
She’s risen up the rankings this year in what is her first real season on the pro circuit. She spent time at Old Dominion University in the NCAA ranks and in 2023 has moved into the top-160.
She’s looked real strong on hard courts with a quartet of ITF titles and another appearance in a final.
She has enough consistency from the baseline to avoid beating herself and while I wouldn’t say she can overpower her opposition consistently, her forehand can dictate play and she certainly has enough pop to hit through the open space she can create.
I’m not sure how well her game will translate to red clay, and I haven’t seen enough on the surface outside of North America to trust her as much as the market clearly does.
Sara Errani vs Yulia Starodubtseva H2H – Stat of the Match
No previous meetings between these two to look into.
It makes sense with Starodubtseva spending time in college and not having been on the pro tour all that long.
If she can take down a veteran on a surface that is relatively foreign to her, I’ll be looking to upgrade her in my player rankings on clay.
