KANSAS CITY CHIEFS VS LOS ANGELES CHARGERS BET BUILDER TIPS: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH

Thursday Night Football is set to be a thriller. The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers both harbour very real Super Bowl aspirations, and the pair will be fighting for the AFC West crown all season long. Both teams got off to a winning start, with Kansas City crushing the Arizona Cardinals and the Chargers battling past the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1.

These teams played out an absolute classic last season, with Patrick Mahomes delivering a vintage late-game and overtime performance to steal the win. They are well-matched once again coming into this game – the Chiefs are 4.5-point favourites, largely due to homefield advantage at the ever-intimidating Arrowhead Stadium.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Chargers Preview

Fri, Sep 16. 01:15 (UK time)

A high-scoring game is expected. There have been 34 or more points in the last 12 meetings, and over 52 in eight of those. Last season’s 34-28 is in line with what most models and bettors envisage here. The total is set at just over 50.

One threat to the over here is the Chargers’ offensive options. Keenan Allen is out. Justin Herbert will need some of his lesser-known receivers to deliver in a big way if they are to trouble an improved Chiefs defence. Still, the way Kansas City played offence in Week 1 makes the over the obvious pick here.

It won’t be as straight-forward for the Chiefs on offence, of course. Where the Cardinals defence was very hospitable, the Chargers are more hostile, particularly with a fired-up Khalil Mack. Kansas City didn’t allow a sack last week, though, and Mahomes was sensational.

Another five-touchdown performance is unlikely, but Mahomes’ line of 2.5 passing touchdowns still seems low. With that level of protection, he can pick apart even an elite defence. The loss of Tyreek Hill was barely noticeable, plus Travis Kelce tormented the Chargers last season.

The league’s best tight end scored two touchdowns against the Chargers in the 2021 regular season. He also posted 121 yards and a score in the win over Arizona. The Chargers, like all 31 other teams, have no answer for Kelce. He’s a good bet builder option to score anytime.

While Herbert was able to lead his team to a win without Allen, the pressure on Mike Williams increases considerably. It’s reductive to say he’s out of his depth as the number one option, but he will clearly face additional defensive attention in Allen’s absence. Williams had just 10 yards in Week 1.

After averaging 71.6 receiving yards per game last season, there is a temptation to take his receiving over at 67.5. This Chiefs defence is for real, though, and they will look to force others to beat them. Even if Herbert manages to march his team down the field, Williams’ role could be limited. We’re going with the under, taking this bet builder to 6.50.

  • Over 51.5 total points
  • Patrick Mahomes over 2.5 passing touchdowns
  • Travis Kelce to score a touchdown
  • Mike Williams under 67.5 receiving yards

Bet Builder Odds: 6.50
