Minnesota Vikings v Kansas City Chiefs Same-Game Parlay: All-Action Offense In The Dome
Kirk Cousins Over 26.5 Passing Completions
The Minnesota Vikings got their season back on track with a 21-13 over the Carolina Panthers, avoiding going 0-4 whilst condemning their opponents to a winless record after four weeks.
It wasn’t pretty down in Charlotte, with the sides combining for less than 500 yards of total offence and three turnovers – with the hosts actually registering more first downs and almost 40 minutes of possession.
It was fairly straightforward for Minnesota though and, were it not for Cousins throwing two interceptions (including a pick-six) deep into Panthers territory, the scoreline might have looked more lopsided.
The same can probably be said for the Chiefs, who tried everything they could to hand last Sunday’s primetime game to the New York Jets. Patrick Mahomes threw two interceptions – and tried to throw a third, Jawaan Taylor took a safety, and the defence made Zach Wilson look like Tom Brady reincarnated under the lights in East Rutherford.
The much maligned Jets QB had a career-day against a Kansas City defence that had been performing well, completing 28/39 for 245 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions, but the Chiefs still ran out 23-20 winners after a huge first quarter to move to 3-1 on the season.
As is often the case the Chiefs were absolutely cooking on their scripted plays, going field goal-touchdown-touchdown and forcing two punts on their way to a 17-0 lead with 3:24 left in the first.
It’s just what the Chiefs do; get up big early and force teams to play from behind, and it’s what we’re hoping for here. KC has led every game at the half so far this year, including a 34-0 lead over the Bears in Week 3, which forces opponents to abandon their game plans and favour the pass – something the Vikings are very interested in doing anyway,
Minnesota ranks 3rd for ‘pass rate over expected’ meaning they are passing even when analytics says they should run and, given the garbage they are serving up at running-back, that should come as no surprise.
Cousins has completed at least 27 passes in three of his four starts so far this season, and has actually completed 30 or more in five of his last six home games.
Travis Kelce Anytime Touchdown Scorer
After missing Week 1 with injury, Travis Kelce has been a welcome addition to the Chiefs shaky offence this season and has provided Patrick Mahomes with a reliable option over the middle.
These two seem to have some sort of telepathy as Mahomes always knows where his tight-end will be, and Kelce always manages to get open when his quarterback is in trouble.
Minnesota haven’t really played an elite tight-end yet, but allowed Los Angeles Chargers’ Donald Parham to catch two scores in their Week 3 meeting and allowed seven touchdowns to TEs last year.
‘Zeus’ has two scores in his three starts this year, and will be looking for another to impress much-publicised new beau Taylor Swift.
Justin Jefferson Anytime Touchdown Scorer
As impressive as the Chiefs defence has been through four weeks this year, they haven’t faced a receiver like Jefferson yet and he is a man who knows how to get open.
The LSU-graduate is already on for a career-year after leading the league for both receptions and yards last year. Through four games he has 543 receiving yards, which puts him on course for an NFL-record 2,307 yards over a 17-game period – around 350 more than Calvin Johnson managed back in 2012.
Not only is he a weapon for Kirk Cousins when it comes to moving the chains, he’s also an elite scoring threat and – after a quiet couple of weeks – has three touchdowns in his last two games.
Jefferson’s home/road splits make for interesting reading too. Over the span of his career, he averages just 0.30 scores per game on the road compared to an elite mark of 0.74 per game under the US Bank Stadium’s dome.
