This is the first matchup between these teams this season. There is little argument that they are the two best teams in the NFC in 2022-23, with both possessing elite two-way numbers. The array of offensive weapons is spectacular across the two rosters, and they are complemented by well-coached, playmaking defences. San Francisco is second in turnover rate on defence, closely followed by Philly in third.

The total is set at 46.5 for this one, which at first look, seems to be on the low side. It will be chilly but dry in the City of Brotherly Love on Sunday. These teams each went under this number in the Divisional Round, yet landing this over is well within reach. The Eagles have scored 22 or more in seven of their last eight, while the Niners have scored 37 or more in four of their previous five.
We are backing great offence to overpower great defence in this one. Let’s give ourselves a bit of margin for error by nudging the total down a handful or points.
For the Niners offence, all eyes are on Purdy. Do the lights get too bright? Does his tendency to take risks cost his team? A lot of attention is on the versatility of Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey, but George Kittle has a huge role to play as a check down option for Purdy. Kittle’s receptions line is too low here at 3.5 – he has gone over in six of Purdy’s seven starts.
One key storyline here is centred on the other side of the quarterback matchup in Jalen Hurts. Hurts sprained his throwing shoulder a few weeks ago, and has shown signs of limitation. The Niners defence will take away some of his favoured throws, such is the effectiveness of their defence, but Hurts has shown a reluctance to take contact at points. That should lead to a decrease in his rushing attempts – he has gone under this line in four of his last five.
