The Premier League is approaching its final mile of the season and with another weekend of action on the horizon, it also means Aston Villa vs Tottenham bet builder tips are not all that far away either.
Tips that will focus on whether Villa can return to winning ways after back-to-back defeats. While they will also focus on whether Spurs can build on last weekend’s home win over Crystal Palace.
In this article:
England, Premier League, Saturday, May 13th, 15:00 (UK)
With the top seven teams in the Premier League being rewarded with a European invite for next season, there are eight outfits who are still looking forward to a trip to the continent. There will be one odd man out and currently, it is Aston Villa who are on the outside looking in.
For as good as Unai Emery’s men have been since his mid-season arrival, the West Midlands outfit have lost steam in recent weeks. They start the weekend in 8th.
Not only have awayday defeats at both Old Trafford and Molineux scuppered them but the fact that they have currently played two games more than Brighton. No points on their most recent travels and the race for seventh place is seemingly passing them by.
Or is it? Because Tottenham have an indifferent record away from North London. A top-seven finish is by no means guaranteed. They find themselves only three points clear of Villa before their meeting on Saturday. Suddenly, they are the team in the crosshairs.
Defeat at the weekend would certainly throw the cat amongst the pigeons and although a top seven is the prize that eight teams desire, in fairness it is a top six finish which is arguably coveted even further.
With the two positions serving as the clear distinction between qualification for the Europa League and its younger Europa Conference cousin, it will only serve to increase the stakes for Saturday’s meeting at Villa Park.
Although Tottenham have not won any of their last six away league outings, they can look at recent home success as a platform to build from. The win over Crystal Palace was much needed but so is at least a point at Villa Park.
With Spurs currently possessing positional superiority in the Premier League table, this upcoming fixture becomes a do not lose than opposed to a must win and therefore, the double chance market is my first port of call.
I would not be brave enough to go all out for the away win and therefore, I am backing Ryan Mason’s side to earn at least a point for their efforts. Should that be the case, Villa’s European hopes may be dashed for good.
While Ollie Watkins has been dashed in terms of goals recently and it is perhaps no surprise that his blanks have seen him and his teammates suffer back-to-back league defeats. Thankfully for the Villa Park faithful, I am backing him to find the net on Saturday.
A goal for Watkins and a goal for Harry Kane as well. The Tottenham forward begins the race towards 261 Premier League goals on Saturday and what better way to that than by also getting his name on the scoresheet.
If the talismanic pair are going to have some form of parity when it comes to goals, I envisage something similar when it comes to cards. Both teams to earn at least one telling-off from the referee and this rounds up my latest bet builder to odds of 12.00.
