Best Weekend Prop Bets: January 13th-15th

We’ve got the prop markets covered ahead of this weekend’s Premier League matches. The action begins on Friday night as Aston Villa host Leeds. There are also derbies in Manchester and North London to look forward to.

Last week’s props piece for the FA Cup saw all six selections land. There is a lot of value in this round of fixtures so let’s hope for a similar outcome as league football resumes.

Aston Villa vs Leeds Preview

Friday, January 13th, 20:00 (UK)

This one promises to be a tantalising affair. There has been a series of fiery clashes between these sides in recent years. This one looks set to be no different. There has been a glut of cards in recent meetings. John McGinn also sparked outrage for a meaty challenge on Archie Gray during pre-season; that bad blood carried over to their meeting earlier this season.

Villa have lost just one of their five league matches under Emery. They will be looking to bounce back after being beaten by Stevenage in the FA Cup. Leeds are without a win in their last six competitive matches and are at risk of being dragged into the relegation zone.

Aston Villa vs Leeds United Best Bet

Unai Emery has adopted a high defensive line since taking charge at Villa. He has taken charge of four matches at home and their opponents have had at least 3 offsides in all of them. Stevenage were caught offside 5 times last weekend despite only having 21% of the ball.

This was also a trend throughout his tenure at Villarreal. The Spanish side forced an average of 3.54 offsides per game from their opponents this season before Emery departed for England.

  • Selection: Over 2.5 Offsides For Leeds
  • Best Odds: 2.25 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 5/10

Man Utd vs Man City Preview

Saturday, January 14th, 12:30 (UK)

Manchester United host a City side that will be licking their wounds. Pep’s side were eliminated from the League Cup by Southampton midweek but they will be raring to go for this one.

City beat United 6-2 at the Etihad this season after a rampant first-half display. Erik Ten Hag’s side come into this one in good form and will be looking for revenge. However, they have had a favourable run of fixtures. United still have a lot to prove if they want to compete with their neighbours this season.

Man Utd vs Man City Best Bet

United were blown away quickly in the last Manchester derby. They will have much more confidence coming into this one. While it may not be enough to get a result, they should be able to cause some problems for City. The Red Devils’ attack features a number of quick players that will look to get in behind City’s high line. This should lead to offsides.

There have been four offsides or more in four of the last five meetings between these sides at Old Trafford. United’s last match against Charlton saw 6 offsides. Ten Hag’s sides’ matches at home this season are averaging 3.95 offsides.

  • Selection: Over 3.5 Offsides In The Match
  • Best Odds: 2.00 (Bet365)
  • Stakes: 6/10

Brentford vs Bournemouth Preview

Saturday, January 14th, 17:30 (UK)

Brentford are sitting comfortably in 9th. They beat Liverpool 3-1 in their last league match before being knocked out of the FA Cup. They will have the lion’s share of possession on Saturday as they take on Bournemouth.

The Cherries are reluctant to press their opponents high up the pitch and should opt to hit on the break. They are averaging just 37.33% possession away from home this season and are on a barren run of form.

Brentford vs Bournemouth Best Bet

Brentford should have ample opportunities to shoot in this one. They will dominate the ball against a deep defensive line. Bournemouth approach all of their away games in this manner. When playing away from home, their opponents are averaging 16.67 shots per game.

The Bees are averaging just under 11 shots per game at home this season but they have faced a number of stern tests. They have played five of the ‘Big Six’ in front of their own fans. They have only faced three teams who are in the bottom half of the table.

Nottingham Forest are the only team that hasn’t had 15 shots or more at home to Bournemouth so far this season.

  • Selection: Over 14.5 Shots For Brentford (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Nottingham Forest vs Leicester Preview

Saturday, January 14th, 15:00 (UK)

Nottingham Forest have drastically improved since the start of the Premier League season. The board have stuck by Steve Cooper and it has started to pay dividends. Forest reached the semi-finals of the League Cup via a penalty shootout. They have also beaten Liverpool in front of their own fans and climbed out of the relegation zone.

Like Forest, Leicester endured a tough start to the season. There were calls for Brendan Rodgers to be sacked but he refused to yield under pressure. A run of good form prior to the World Cup saw them climb off the bottom of the table. However, things have been less rosey since the season resumed. They have lost four of their five matches in all competitions. Their only win came against Gillingham.

Nottingham Forest vs Leicester Best Bet

Morgan Gibbs-White has started to perform for Forest in recent matches. He celebrated victory over his former club midweek and will come into this one full of confidence. He has played in behind the strikers and as part of the front line and has been effective in both roles.

Gibbs-White has had two or more shots in his last four Premier League matches. Leicester have conceded 16.33 shots per game away from home; the 5th most in the league. Morgan will be one of the beneficiaries of Leicester’s sloppy defending and should be able to let fly.

  • Selection: Over 1.5 Shots For Morgan Gibbs-White (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.80 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 7/10

Newcastle vs Fulham Preview

Sunday, January 15th, 14:00 (UK)

Newcastle supporters are in dreamland. It doesn’t seem long ago that the dark cloud of Mike Ashley lingered over St. James Park. Now the Geordies are battling it out near the top of the table. The Toon have also set up a League Cup semi-final clash with Southampton to add to the fever pitch. It’s not a good time to be playing Newcastle.

Fulham are enjoying a marvellous season of their own. They are just four points behind Newcastle after overcoming Chelsea on Thursday night. Avoiding relegation would have been the target for Marco Silva’s men at the start of the season. That target looks to be a foregone conclusion at this stage.

Newcastle vs Fulham Best Bet

Newcastle had 19 shots when these teams met at Craven Cottage earlier in the season. Eddie Howe’s side are averaging 17.33 shots per game in front of their own fans this season. They have had 16 or more shots in seven of their nine home league matches. Man City and Chelsea are the only teams to prevent them from reaching the required mark for this bet to land.

  • Selection: Over 15.5 Shots For Newcastle (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Tottenham vs Arsenal Preview

Sunday, January 15th, 14:00 (UK)

Finally, we have the North London derby. Arsenal laid down the gauntlet in the early part of the season. Arteta’s men look to be serious title contenders. The Gunners have lost just one league game this season and are five points clear at the top.

Tottenham pipped Arsenal to 4th place last season. At the time this victory was seen as a massive boost to the club’s long-term ambitions. Things haven’t gone smoothly this season for Spurs. Performances on the pitch have not been good enough. Nevertheless, anything can happen when these two teams face off.

Tottenham vs Arsenal Best Bet

Tottenham could have a chance to regain fourth place this weekend. Their fans have had little to shout about in recent weeks but they will be right behind their players in this one. Expect Spurs to be more combative out of possession than usual. This should increase the number of throws in the match.

There were 35 throws the last time these sides met. Arsenal’s away matches this season are averaging 37 throws per game. Seven of their nine matches on the road have ended with 35 or more throws.

Matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are averaging 37.44 throws per game in the league this season.

  • Selection: Over 34.5 Throws In The Match
  • Best Odds: 1.83 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 6/10

Odds via bet365 as at 10:30 January 13th 2023. Odds may now differ.
