Championship Best Bets: Tuesday, March 14th

We are back with more Championship best bets ahead of a full midweek round of fixtures. The weekend saw champions elect Burnley cruise to another win – beating bottom side Wigan 3-0. 2nd placed Sheffield United stumbled again suffering a 1-0 home loss to Luton who remain 4th, seven points behind the Blades. Wins for Birmingham and QPR moved both sides out of the bottom five while the relegation places remain unaltered.

Three of Tuesday night’s six games go under the microscope, with a best bet in each.

Millwall vs Swansea Preview

Tuesday, March 14th, 19:45 (UK)

An Andreas Voglsammer penalty was the only goal of a hard-fought victory for Millwall at Reading on Saturday. A win which lifted the Lions back into the playoff places. Having previously only won two of their last six Championship fixtures. Claiming all three points was a much-needed boost for Gary Rowett’s men. Having shipped two goals in their last two league games Millwall made a return to their defensively resolute best in Berkshire. Allowing the Royals just two shots over the 90 minutes.

Swansea looked like springing something of a surprise as Joel Piroe gave them a lead against in-form Middlesbrough on Saturday. Three unanswered second half goals from Boro took the game away from Russell Martin’s men. It’s now one win in the last 10 competitive matches for the Swans. They travel to London down in 17th place. With an 11-point buffer to the relegation zone, they should be safe from the drop. Arguably one of only a few sides with nothing to play for as we enter the season’s finale.

Millwall vs Swansea Best Bet

Remarkable given their lofty perch in the Championship table but Millwall will be looking to post back-to-back victories for the first time since October. Confidence will be high given their rock solid form on home turf. Defeat to play-off rivals Norwich in their last outing at the Den was a first since September. Conceding just seven goals in that sequence of 11 games. A side also looking much sharper in attack should have far too much for the visitors. Visitors who have lost four of their last five games and are in the midst of a bleak record on the road. Losing their last three road trips “to-nil”.

  • Selection: Millwall to Win (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.95 (Unibet)
  • Stakes: 7/10

Rotherham vs Preston Preview

Tuesday, March 14th, 19:45 (UK)

After taking seven points from their last three league games Rotherham’s unbeaten run ended on Saturday. A disappointing 2-0 defeat at Birmingham in a match where they never looked like troubling the struggling hosts. The Millers will welcome a return to home soil. Collecting six of those aforementioned seven points at the Aesseal New York Stadium. Sitting eight points clear of the relegation places Matt Taylor’s side are closing in on their objective of Championship survival.

Preston stretched their unbeaten run to six games at the weekend. Following a goalless opening period the Lillywhites ran out 2-0 winners over Cardiff. In doing so they have kept their hopes of gatecrashing the playoffs alive. Twelfth place and seven points off the top six Ryan Lowe has simply set his side the target of winning as many games as possible. Although head to Yorkshire knowing they have failed to beat the hosts in any of their last six meetings.

Rotherham vs Preston Best Bet

This clash looks a little like an irresistible force meeting an immovable object. Rotherham’s survival campaign has been built on their strong home form. Losing just one of their last six at home. Seven of their nine wins have come on home soil too. Only three sides have taken more points on their travels than Preston however. Also keeping a fourth clean sheet from their last five games on Saturday. A draw looks the likely outcome but given their current form I am also happy to keep the visitors onside. Both the Lillywhites last two road trips ended goalless with the 0-0 draw at Watford in their last away game a fifth in total this term.

  • Selection: Preston or Draw Double Chance and Under 4 Goals
  • Best Odds: 1.80 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 7/10

Middlesbrough vs Stoke Preview

Tuesday, March 14th, 20:00 (UK)

Middlesbrough’s relentless pursuit of 2nd=placed Sheffield United continued apace on Saturday. Trailing to Swansea by a goal to nil at the interval, Michael Carrick rallied his troops. Their response was a devastating three-goal blitz in 23 second-half minutes to close the gap on the Blades to just four points. The obligatory goal from Championship top scorer Chuba Akpom added to earlier strikes from Cameron Archer and a third in two games for Aaron Ramsey. Boro proving they carry threat all over the pitch.

Stoke are finally showing real signs of progress under Alex Neil. The Potters ended Blackburn’s five-game winning run on Friday night. After roaring into a three-goal lead they survived a late Rovers fightback to edge a five-goal thriller. Neil praised his side for an excellent 80 minutes. Choosing to focus on the positives rather than a scruffy end to the game from his men. Although admitting the final 10 minutes will give him food for thought ahead of the daunting trip to Teesside.

Middlesbrough vs Stoke Best Bet

The win in Wales was an incredible 15th from Michael Carrick’s 20 league games in charge. A seventh in the last eight games and I would now be very surprised not to see Middlesbrough automatically promoted come the conclusion of the season. Boro are just blowing their opponents away. They have now scored at least three goals in six of their last seven Championship fixtures. It is impossible not to side with the men from Teesside. They have won seven in succession at the Riverside smashing in 21 goals whilst conceding just four.

  • Selection: Middlesbrough to Win
  • Best Odds: 1.85 (Coral)
  • Stakes: 7/10

Odds via Unibet, bet365 and Coral as at 22:45 March 12th 2023. Odds may now differ.
